Indexing of URLs, comments etc in DP threads

It is a bit hard to sell-on almost any thing purchased on DP, without changing the URL etc.

Surely there should be a way to display the URLs and names of products sold on DP, without all of the comments, good and bad, as well as the auction prices on the DP thread, being etched on Google forever!

There may well be, but this is the way the forum is currently configured. There are thousands of websites that let you buy and sell online. This is the way this one works. Maybe one of the others is a better match to the way you like to operate?

I have been sent the following message re the indexing problem:
"There's actually a feature on DP to disable indexing of search engines, but that's only for premium members.
But it also limits the visibility of the auction greatly, so that's a problem for sellers too"

Why would simply separating some of the letters of the name/URL of a site for sale limit the visibility of the auction?

Every thing remains the same, just some of the letters of the URL or the name would have a few spaces, which could easily be deleted!

I think that this problem has nothing to do with DP management.

The sellers, if they understand the problem of "indexing forever" of all the comments etc on the DP threads, can simply separate the letters of the name/URL of the site for sale, thereby stopping the indexing of the sites for sale.

It would be a considerate thing to do resulting in real benefits for the buyers with minimal effort by the sellers!

    I stand corrected.
As you can see from the message below that I received re the Indexing problem.

The DESCRIPTION is where we sellers get the control to write anything on. The domain name you see ON TOP of the auction is produced by DP's system. For it to appear there, sellers need to verify the domain name from their server. If you don't verify the correct name of the domain, the sale thread cannot be posted until you do so.

Since I am not normally a seller on DP, I had not realised the real problem with the thread indexing.

It appears that it IS indeed up to the DP management to make a tiny bit of effort to try and sort out the said problem.

I mean how hard is it to allow the seller to separate of some of the letters in the name/URL, AFTER the verification of the domain name etc has taken place?

However here is the response from one of the very senior members here on DP to this genuine problem expressed by a member:
"There are thousands of websites that let you buy and sell online.
This is the way this one works.
Maybe one of the others is a better match to the way you like to operate?"

First up there will be no more changes to the way the forum operates this year. I doubt that Shawn had made the decision to build the sales pages the way he has without considering all the angles. This forum is 10 years old and Shawn is a smart guy who gets involved in the suggestions that are made and I'm sure he'll eventually answer this one too. Don't think for a second that this is a mistake or an oversight. He's built so many custom tools into the Buy/Sell/Trade section that he will have a reason for it being the way it is.

Oh, and don't think for a second you can please all of the people all of the time.
For every seller who wants to obscure the history of a domain/site there will be potential buyers griping that we're stopping them from doing their due diligence.
