Intensive Purposes

I was doing a survey among my friends this week, and it seems that a lot of people say "intensive purposes" instead of "intents and purposes". Did you know which one was correct before I said something?

What other phrases do you know like this?

"pacifically" instead of "specifically" that crap drives me crazy.

"Should of" instead of "should've" or "should have". Same for "could of"

Reminds me of a joke, though. I had to look it up because I couldn't remember the whole thing:

    "I could care less."

That makes no sense at all. The correct phrase is "I couldn't care less", meaning I don't care about it at all, it would not be possible for me to care less about X than I do now.

I have a question..Is there a place I can find a list of abbreviations and the meanings? Like what DMOZ means and many other terms that are bandied about and assumed that they are understood.

more pacifically, its supposably correct, for intensive purposes, alot of the time, to say things like you should. But then again, I could care less :p (at least 6 words used incorrectly there, most likely more)

Two nicely dressed ladies happen to start up a conversation during an endless wait in the LAX airport. The 1st lady was an arrogant California woman married to a wealthy man. The second was a well mannered elderly woman from Arizona. When the conversation centered on whether they had any children, the California woman started by saying, "When my first child was born, my husband built a beautiful mansion for me. "

The lady from Arizona commented, "Well, isn't that precious?"

The first woman continued, "When my second child was born, my husband bought me a beautiful Mercedes-Benz. "

Again, the lady from Arizona commented, "Well, isn't that precious?"

The first woman continued boasting, "Then, when my third child was born, my husband bought me this exquisite diamond bracelet.

Yet again, the Arizona lady commented, "Well, isn't that precious?"

The first woman then asked her companion, "What did your husband buy for you when you had your first child? "

"My husband sent me to charm school, " declared the Arizona lady.

"Charm school?" the first woman cried, "Oh my God! What on earth for?"

The Arizona lady responded, "Well for one thing, instead of saying "Who gives a sh**?" I learned to say, 'Well, isn't that precious?"

"To all Intents and purposes" here. I get annoyed by the "Could care less" comment - It's "couldn't care less!".

More than any phrase or word. The thing that annoys me most is when people get the your/you're ... there/they're/their wrong.

I dunno why, but it annoys me. :$

"Orientate" instead of "orient" or especially "orientated" instead of "oriented".

Oh yes, and "conversate" instead of "converse".
