I don't know where I heard this term, but I'm sure I did. Is there such thing as an Internet based company? Can you register such company somewhere online? Maybe I'm just confused, and this term means that a company has no HQ other than the website, but it's a normal company besides that? Also, could you get sued for calling yourself a company, when infact, there is no company of this name, just your website? Thank you.

A internet based company is a site that offers services or products for sale.
The company is registered as any other company regarding the requirements of the country where the company is going to be registered.

A internet based company does not hold a brick and mortor store for customers to visit, hence the word ''Internet based''.
Anyhow that is my definition of Internet based.

Calling yourself a company when you don't have a company registration isn't a wise thing to do, most people will try to find your business registration. Regarding legality? , it's misleading to say the least.

Thanks for your reply Edz. Yes, I understand that calling yourself a company while you're not is unethical at best.

However, I do see many sites referring to themselves as 'we', 'our team' etc. without mentioning a word company, and for some, I really know that there's a lone person on the other side of the line doing this.

Well ,that's not that bad. If you say we but it's only you...so what? it's only you that knows about it and in some cases this looks better i guess.

I don't see any harm in that;)

You don't need to be a registered company to refer to yourself as 'we', or to have a team. It also seems out of place if you say 'I' on a really professional website, unless it's for marketing purposes/people know you (like a forum).

I often say 'we' on my membership sites. What sounds more professional/trustworthy? (ironically).

Of course it's even better to say your company name when referring to your service level. E.g. "Domainsrus has the best quality domains on the internet"

This tends to take the more personal edge away but it does sound more professional and from a larger company. I often pick 1 person companies fromthe way they write their site text.
