    Interoperability of Content Management System

    Hi.
    In the comparison table at www (dot) cmsmatrix.org, there are several criteria:

    * Content Syndication (RSS)
    * FTP Support
    * UTF-8 Support
    * WAI Compliant
    * WebDAV Support
    * XHTML Compliant

    What are they?
    What are their uses?
    Which one is important, which one is not?
    Which one is necessary to have, which one is not where substitute can be found elsewhere?

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your advice.
    I did search for Google (eg "how to choose CMS", "criteria to choose CMS") but I couldn't find answers for some of my specific questions.

    EDIT: I managed to find these websites/articles, but very often I can get is just some generic information or answers. Not really what I want. I have searched for a week or two. Still no answers... :(

    Maybe since I know little about them.

    Take "FTP Support" as an example, I know what FTP is.
    But what does it really mean by "a CMS having FTP support"?
    What support does it give to boost the functions of FTP?
    Is it possible for me to workaround even if the CMs doesn't support FTP (eg if I have FTP client software, then it doesn't matter whether the CMS has FTP support)?

    Your thinking is correct there.

    FTP Support would mean users can share files etc. like in a project management package. But it doesn't have to do with whether you can FTP to your host so there's always ways to access your files.

    That means FTP support is similar to built-in FTP version of CMS.
    As long as I have any FTP client software, this feature is unnecessary.
    But can visitors upload files thorugh my website?

    How about WAI / XHTML Compliant?
    If my CMS does not support so, what're the drawbacks?

    How about UTF-8 support?
    It says it will support UTF-8 character encoding to enable multi-lingual sites without the use of seperate code pages for each language.
    What does it mean?
    How useful this function is?
