Currently designing a new social networking site. I want to do a quick survey on how is everybody's opinion on character limitation.
Thank you for giving us feedback. It will be better to include the reason :)

250 to 500 characters allows you to be more descriptive, while also limiting super long posts. That's what I voted for.

I don't prefer Word Limitation. Word limitation may ban a person quality to convince someone.
Focusing on Word limit . You should ad More extra features in your social networking site Like : - Giving Rich text Editor option as now no one social networking site provide it.
It helps users to emphasize the words which is more important with rich text editor.
They can Increase and change the font and Font Color in their post to look more attractive. I am getting bored :mad:by this black & White text format.

I think up to 250 characters is acceptable. However, we have to remember is not traditional blogging but rather microblogging. It's meant for sending quick messages to people who don't have much time to view them on the go. Brevity is more effective on social media sites. Brief but provide a link so people can view more.

I went back and forth on that one. The more I post on Twitter, then more I realize that 140 characters is more than enough. It actually simulates creativity and preciseness in your tweets.

I think 140-250 characters will be enough, so not to overload your followers with the information. Try to be precise, Brevity is the soul of wit (c)

I don't prefer a limitation. Very annoying thing in Twitter.

Limitation in twitter is really annoying. Though, if I had to choose, that would be near 500.

Limiting at 140 would be too close to twitter, maybe, but then again it does make posts very easy to read. As others have suggested, maybe a 250 limit would be better. Or, you could go the other direction and have a micro-micro service - limit posts to 40 chars

140-250 is precise and good enough for users. Anything bigger will make it look like essay
