    At our local sites we sell advertisements directly, no Adsense or whatsoever. For a small site, less then 1k daily uniques we charge between $300-$450 per month at top spot, a 300x250 banner above the fold. Usually local companies grab that banner pretty quickly and they seem satisfied (restaurants, auto related, regional government...)
