Is BBB(Better Business Bureau) overated?

Do you check the BBB rating of a company before using their services? This type of ratings worked for businesses in the 80's but with online businesses located anywhere in the planet, does it make sense?

I don't think that the BBB makes too much sense, however - so many people still use it to check on business that it is really in a business's best interest to have a good BBB rating. I did sales for a bit, and for many customers it was important to them that the company I worked for had a good rating.

BBB is still relevant for older consumers and those not trusting a newer Web or Net business. Worth getting rated is you're selling services with high price points. We had great success with it. Don't bother with their upgrade (accredited?)
