Is blogging an effective tool to create traffic to an affiliate link?

    I'm new to social media marketing and I have never blogged before, nor am I very interested in the upkeep of blogging.
    Yet I seem to be seeing lots of efforts from those "Blogging".
    My Q: How much benefit is Blogging in terms of driving more traffic to a splash page/ affiliate link, etc.

    I have tried myself to get into the blogging world but without success. I would say if you are consistent with it you can add significant promotion to your affiliate links/pages but when you are starting out you have to have motivation to keep adding to the site and making sure your content is new and fresh.
