I used Digg a few times when I was running a Wii Website / Forum and it did increase my initial visitors at first, over time there were some members that joined because they found the article on digg but its not the "miracle" source of traffic. Although its a good way to get someone to a particular article in the long run it doesn't have a real effect.

    In order to get your story featured on home page of Digg, you need to have;
    1> Good amount of Diggs.
2> Average amount of Diggs from Quality Users who are matured at Digg

I got one of my stories on top just by getting 110 Diggs. All the Diggs were from users who were pretty old ( 1-2 years old accounts at Digg ) and they all were normal users.

I've had zero luck with Digg... but what can I expect really, my topic doesn't really do too well with tech sites like digg.

Bounce rate of Digg users are quite high may be due to non relevant traffic.

I've had nothing but success with digg. It may move my site up a little in the SERPs, but I've noticed that it would rank pretty high itself that has a bookmark of my site under digg.

Spam Digg for all it's worth, and you will get very good traffic.
Especially in the long-term as Google indexes the postings left by you.

Swarms of traffic from people searching for your niche.....they get to Digg, then click to your site.

Then Digg bans your account and deletes every trace you ever existed.
Say goodbye to SE traffic as well- "just that fast".

Yes, If you chose the right kw that has less than 80,000 SEOC it works wonders. I generate around 100 clicks a day from digg and it was a random realization.

Unless you have friends that will digg your posts, the only good digg is for is to get a new website indexed for SE's - I do that a lot for my clients.

Digg is a great social bookmarking site, but if you don't have a lot of Diggs about your story, than you probably won't receive front page on Digg, meaning not a lot of traffic. It's always good to get the word of your site out there, even if it's a tad bit... all helps. :)

So let me see if I understand this correctly...

If you don't get to the front page of Digg, you (almost) don't even need to bother because there's not that much extra traffic..

And even if there is, the quality isn't necessarily what you want. I.e., they may not really convert or even read your blog if that's what you want?

It's nice to have lots of visitors, but if they're not targeted they're not really doing a lot for you, or am I missing something?

    Thanks.

you can still get a high amount of traffic if you can provide a worth reading content or article. Make sure you are ready for the sudden traffic though.:D

Digg is good if you know how to use it. There are several training materials which you can read about so that you can effectively use digg.. :) Just to list some tips, you should add more friends, build networks, ping your digg rss feeds and twitter your feeds.. I will keep you posted once I got some good training materials regarding digg.
