Firefox seems to be faster than IE8 for me. IE8 takes lot of time to open new tabs and I need to open several new tabs in quick succession several times. But I have found that IE8 is still the most usable browser out there, better than Chrome, Opera, Safari.

I never really liked firefox, the layout has never really appealed to me.

I'm using chrome right now since its the only browser that runs at a decent speed on my cheap laptop :D

Between Firefox and Internet Explorer, it would have to be Firefox. It's much faster on a lot of websites and easier to use (for me at least) lol. However, I honestly think that there is no "best". All have there own pros and cons. And even FF has it's own share of problems.

That's a braindead statement. Everything you said is a lie. IE8 is incompetent and no self-respecting developer uses it.

I must say that I do prefer Firefox. I have tried many add-ons for Firefox. I like the FlashVideo tool for downloading YouTube Vids, I like the Squidoo features and other useful add ons.

There's an addon that prevents YouTube videos from instantly starting and another, called Xoopit for Gmail to view images and other media extracted from your emails.

Maybe because your situation doesn't require to use the plug-ins. If you really find FF slow, increase your memory. If it is not possible then use Chrome instead without the plug-ins. Some of us here is really making use of FF's plug-in and it makes our life easier.

Firefox is good if you need lots of add-ons. But the software gets bloated after a while. If you don't need so many add-ons, you can get Opera with all the basics pre-loaded.

Creating add-ons for Firefox is relatively easy, requiring only Javascript and XML knowledge. otoh, IE requires considerable resources and knowledge of compiled languages, COM, downloading/installing the Platform SDK, and considerable overall effort.
