Is it worth having facebook likes just for the 'Visual Effect'

My title may be somewhat confusing. I've recently noticed a lot of facebook pages that have a large number of likes compared to website content and page content, which leads me to believe that these likes were acquired in a non-organic manner. It got me thinking though, maybe it's worth having some amount of likes on a page just to increase visual profile + initial impression. I think people may pick up quite quickly on the fact that there may be only 1-5 comments on each status update or link when there's a large amount of likes that should really be delivering more results.

What are your thoughts on this?

Depending on what type of page it is, mostly I agree with getting "non-organic" likes. It's a psychological thing, people are more prone to like the page if there are allot of other people who have done the same.

Also your search position will increase in Facebook search box with more like or people talking about the page. And if you get the right amount of non-organic no-one will really notice unless they do the same thing.

A large number of likes on Facebook only shows that more people are interested in the page for whatever it is. The number of likes could lead to having potential customers or even increasing traffic to your website if it is incorporated to the site. It also becomes part of the Facebook graph which appears in search.

In short, yes but just to give you an idea that thousands of like and no wall posts isn't a good idea.

I think it does help, and if it's possible for you to get as much FB likes using automated software or service, then do so. This shouldn't take you away from your main focus though which is making sure that you're publishing informative, high quality content. Otherwise, those FB likes will just go to waste as users will leave your site right away if they don't find anything worthwhile on it.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Be careful with fake "Likes", you could have your Facebook page banned.

Yes, it's worth. It attracts more visitors to your page. But the real likes will always beat the fake ones.

The bigger the followers, the better it looks. It's psychological. People will notice a product if others are hooked to it. But your goal should be to get as many real visitors as possible instead of fake ones on a long-term basis.

Since you can't hide the counter on Facebook buttons (unlike on any other social button out there), it's probably OK, if you have at least 10 likes or something like that. I don't know if you get penalized for getting to much likes in an artificial way (like buying them on Fiverr), but it's something I was thinking about getting myself. But I would already be happy with 100 likes or so... Don't need more. :)

I agree with member who says it will be useless having large facebook fans with zero communication on the facebook page. Today, gain lots of likes are easy and free but gain real fans who speak, shout and support are different. You can't pay this and I don't think you can find any service who provide this in fiverr.

I do not think so. It is better to have a page with fewer likes and an active community that interacts with your content on a daily basis, rather than a dead page with 1000 likes where there is not activity or interaction at all. Facebook is all about communication, socialising with other people. I hope that helps a little bit.

yeah, it helps in creating impression among users. More likes will to some extend tell a new visitor that your website is highly popular.

Note: with more likes i mean reasonable likes

In many previous replies by members it has been said that more likes creates a good impression among users. I agree with it, more likes creates an impression that page/content/photo/status is interesting and worth to look at, if people finds it interesting they share it, like it, this goes viral then. So it is not just visual impression that is created by more likes, It helps to set a brand value over web.

based on my experience, no. it is in fact, depressing... you have thousands of likers, yet only a few hit the like button and comment.

Having lots of likes is great for when new visitors see your Fanpage. Most people do what others do which is LIKE a page when someone else has already. So yes it's great for your Fanpage.

It's not worth it, the idea to be "liked" in facebook is to get more traffic, with fake likes you don't get any benefits and I don't think that someone will start to like website just because of facebook likes count.
