    Hello DP members,

Today I read very funny thing in one of my threads!
So does it mean that people who don’t know English don't know anything?

Well I am not taking it personal and I know I can write and read better English than him.. i am confident about it...

I have noticed that many Indian people have that kind of mentality....
(Mind you I am an INDIAN)

Your post seems much more literate than some of the ones I have seen lately.

So if you are saying this correctly, you believe that indian members who read and write English well, are looking down up other Indian members who can't?

(Is that what you are saying?)

I think that spelling errors are annoying, but if you can tell that they don't know the language well, as long as you are able to get what they are saying, that kind of response is harsh.

    (I'm not indian)

Well, I think you should take the time to check errors. But just because someone can't type or write English well doesn't mean they are stupid. The people who believe so, are haughy self centered jerks.

You'd be surprised what so called "discraces" can do. It's truly sad to see how shallow people have become.

I have to say my oppinion about this.

If you make or manage a site, you are opening it for all the world. If you wanted it just for indian people you would have blocked access to the rest.

A good site, with proper spelling and grammar, looks professional and tells me that the owner cares about it.

If I see a site with lots of spelling or grammar errors I tend to imagine the site is created by a kiddie that just copied articles or texts from various locations on the Internet or magazines. It's simply not trustworthy for me.

later edit : Another thing that bugs me is something that I see mostly on forums. When I warn a person (in a polite and nice way) about some huge spelling or grammar mistakes I sometimes get something like this :

"Dude, shut the f.. up, this is a forum about <subject> and a thread about <topic>, not for grammar, it's not important how I write as long as I'm understood"

    Wrong. My 50 cents

Well I will add my 50 cents Mariush.

    1)'opinion' is spelt with 1 'p' not 2.
2)The word 'indian' is spelt with a capital I.
3)The word 'kiddie' does not exist.
    4) There should be a period after "My fifty cents".

Judging by these grievous grammatical errors I assume you are stupid and incompetent. Either that or you are a unprofessional "kiddie". Am I correct Mariush?

    According Merriam-Webster's dictionary:

There is a world of difference between spelling and typos. There is a world of difference between bad grammar and twisting grammar for effect. You only have to read a little e.e. cummings to realize this
The way it is written and/or spoken always makes the first impression about the level of intelligence of an individual. But, the mark of a truly intelligent person is the capacity to listen long enough to find the intelligence that is in all of us.

Okay I retract, "kiddie" is a word. Why isn't Microsoft Word updated?

The rest of the errors stand. Clancey I agree with you completely. However, mariush feels there is not difference so I checked it the way he would.

    BINGO.

I often sacrifice my spelling on the altar of speed

p.s. if people were to ignore bad grammar and spelling, they would need to skip everything by shoemoney. The guy knows what he is talking about, and obviously does it without an editor

Dude, English is not India's first language, and it is not important at all.
Knowing a language is always considered good, but its never been a do or die matter.
there are people, who can not speack or write even a single word in english but no one can challenge them for their knowledge.
Even many natives do make a mistake while typing/chatting. This happens.

I reckon, my english is very very bad, I try to learn from the mistakes I make, but I'd give a damn if someone tells me to go back to the school and learn english again. So cheer up, stop thinking about, you are here to do the business and enjoy, so do it. :)

PS: Skinny, buddy check my post for mistakes and notify me :D

    onlyme,

You are not stupid. And you are brave. And that person is a snob. I'd rather deal with you than him.

But it is always a good idea to check for spellings and grammar when selling something.
