Is Pinterest marketing just a bunch of hype?

I haven't marketed on Pinterest yet but I have been hearing a whole lot of buzz lately for it. I've had an account for a couple of months already but I have been
occupied with my current projects but I'm considering seeing what it's all about.

What have been some of your experiences with Pinterest?

Just feel that it is interesting but too much hype was given to it. I feel that it is a kind of fad, how long the fad will last will be a big question. Hopefully they can find more uses and features to enable them to survive into IPO or being bought over by one of the giants.

Pinterest is the next big thing to happen after facebook and twitter. Studies have revealed that Pinterest brings more referral traffic than twitter, youtube, google+ and youtube combined. If you are not using Pinterest, you are missing something.

I totally DO NOT believe these "studies"....

Seriously, Pinterest sucks, it's boring, and they claim to be the third social network (after Fakebook and Twitter)... (Note: IN THE USA ONLY!!!)

It's all about spreading (spamming) the world and make people believe that something is hot...
Then lots of people jump on it.

It's totally overhyped and faked statistics and "studies" (LOL) for sure.

TBH, I don't like it as much as other social networks - but we are using it for a corporate site and I must say the referral traffic is quite good. Hopefully it does take off more

That's exactly what I was thinking. What else do they bring to the table that could build longjevity besides pinning? Or perhaps thats the hook of it.

As far as statistics go it seems to be a traffic juganaut but I can't wrap my mind around the thought of a site that requires an invite become so huge. The thing thats up in the air is this somethingthing thats worth investing time in for the long term.

I don't think it's hype. Pinterest is a way to get some additional traffic. I'm just not sure about the quality of the traffic quite yet.

Me either, I think the only way to find out is to dive in. Since it's free worst case scenario I lose a couple of hours out of my life. Getting the traffic doesn't seem too difficult, the trick is in converting that traffic into $$$.

I use it,, it's perfect for my type of site (first site in my SIG) and I get a good bit of traffic from it.

I pin 1 or 2 pins from every post I make on my site to Pinterest, and people click on the pins to see more of the pics.

It's handy boost for my traffic.

Personally I love Pinterest. More than the traffic it can give, Pinterest inspires me-- a lot of photos and statements are really nice.

Really? What about it inspires you?

It seems that way I must say. I have been looking more into it and it seems simple if you have some good photos and a good niche. Would anyone have any advice on finding good images for pinterest?

I think it depends. I've never tried Pinterest, but I will in the near future. But I can't say it's just "hype".

Problem is that if just one person reports it as abusive or as spam, it goes into a review que after being temporarily suspended. So if you spend too much time trying it without verifying the links over time (like a test week) it will be all for not.
