    Hi Friends,
I'm a beginner in blogging and started a new blog in blogspot. It's a technology trends blog. http://techtrendsdot.blogspot.com/.
I need you guys advice in couple of things.

1). I'm planning to buy a domain and I would like to change the template. I was wondering, if there is any free CMS, that acts just like blogger.
2). Also talking about the wordpress, I like their templates, but as far I know it is subscription driven, pay some $ per month. Is it right? or do they have any free service?

    Please help me.
Any suggestions means a lot to me.
    Thanks so much.

    WORDPRESS is Free.

I don't think there is a better blogging software for a beginner.

Thank you so much friends. Appreciate you all.
I tried with Wordpress.org, and they took me to a list of hosting sites. Seems all are the same.

But I'm bit confused here. The hosting sites say, I have to pay around $7-9/month for hosting. Is that for their server? So I'm not using Wordpress server for hosting, right? So what Wordpress offers is just the blogging software and not their server? Am I right here?

Or in other words, I will have to pay around 10/month for my blogging activity, even if I use wordpress?
Please help me with some comments!

it probably redirected you to a host that has preinstalled wordpress on their servers. yes wordpress only offers a blogging software.

on the other hand you can get some cheap hosting for about $1 a month for a start that could support your blog and then move to a new server once your site grows. best of luck to you.

    This is what I know.

    1) Option -1 : You can take your subdomain at Wordpress itself (it's just like blogger service). It's free, but you cannot place any Google Ads on your website.

    2) Option -2 : Wordpress offers the software for free. You have to download the software and install it on a web server. The software is free, but you need a hosting service (server) for installing your wordpress website. That hosting service costs you some money. The hosting service cost per month typically varies from 1 - 20 $. You have to choose a hosting provider suitable for your budget.

    Hope it clarifies...

For hosting, I would recommend Downtown Host. Not as big as Hostgator but much more personal service and they do not run apps that automatically shut down your site if it has a spike in resources. Web Hosting Talk forums is a great place to find a host.

I really like WordPress and it is definitely the greatest free blog resource out there. However, I have really been into Joomla lately. It isn't exactly a beginner CMS, but if you ever plan on using your site for anything besides an exclusive blog, I would recommend reading into Joomla. It will facilitate an easier transition to a full fledged website from a blog with more ease than WordPress.

Like wordpress, there is an entire community out there giving away free templates, plugins and modules. There is also an entire community of Web Designers and Programmers that have refined their skills to customize Joomla Templates and Modules for a fee.

It will be slower to get going, but may prove very useful down the line.
