    Are blogshops counted? :)

I have seen many people having fashion shop on FaceBook locally. I think it is a good idea to make use of the Social Media platform to sell products as it can reach out to the mass easily. For example: The owners will mass tag people in their friend list on the product photos they uploaded. (annoying, but it works!)

Besides that, it's also easy for people to leave reviews on your Social Media site too and you do not have to worry about hosting, designs all these. I would say using social media to sell tangible products is definitely good for small businesses.

i feel that if you want to sell something, then facebook may not such a good solution. Reason is simple:
    1) People use facebook to socialise. When people log on to facebook, what they want is to post something or the world to see, or take a look at friend's profiles or updates on some of the pages they follow. People don't usually use facebook or any other social networking site for shopping. That is not the objectives of using facebook.

    2) However, facebook is a good tool to drive traffic, people may not be looking for things to buy, but when they come across an offer so irresistible, they will click the link to the companies website to buy it. That is when your own website comes in. Where people are already ready to purchase something or are already looking for something to buy.

Just ask yourself. If you want to know how to make money online, would you
    a) Google it
    b) facebook it

Of course it is (a) google it!

The rule i follow is use the tools of the internet which people perceive them as. People go amazon to buy, sell at amazon. People go ebay to buy, sell at ebay. But people hardly go facebook to buy. Never heard someone say: hey lets go facebbok to buy this money making guide right?

    Hope this helps~

Like @Fare said, using social media can really reach mass audience and sometimes its really good to alerts friends in FB what you really do and sell, and mostly are local target audience. i believe there is a peoples successfully sell products in fanpage with just providing the local bank account. this method very tedious to keep on track. but atleast it works.

hi howard lim, i'm cant be totally agree with you. maybe just 60-70% :) . because i do heard from my friend said, hey go this url(fb) check out the sexy lingeries in the list. and they bought it for thier wife.
so.... its good to have fanpage for refering a product and link back to real store website.. ?

I have a few personal friends selling off various products through Facebook. They don't have their own websites. They create a fanpage then post the images of the products there. If anyone wishes to order, they refer to the image of the product and message the fanpage owner through Facebook messaging. Then the payment is settled and products are shipped to buyer. All straightforward really.

In a way it saves you from having to register a domain and pay for hosting. Facebook and other social media sites are not a venue for selling; it's for socialising and networking. But then again, there are Facebook ads selling us this and that, so I guess it's not so uncommon to do it.

    Have a good day!
