Is this a good practice? Thumbnails next to Goggle Adsense large Rectangle blocks?

    Is this a good practice?

I’m pretty fairly green when it comes to Adsense optimization and I’ve seen several of these sites lately that place small pictures next to and just to the left of their Goggle Adsense large rectangle blocks. In the process its makes the Google ads appear as if they will open a larger picture based on these pseudo thumbnails. My question is. Is this a good practice or could it possibly be against Googles TOS or is it common practice?

As an example let me show you a site that uses this type of style for their Adsense block http://www.mspremade.com/img1021.htm.

The site really rox, just change those adlinks, (I mean use horizontal adlink the biggest one) that will have a good CTR in your site, and yes put more thumbnails near the ads, rest is very good :)

It's definitely against TOS, and warnings/bans from Google will definitely occur... it's just a matter of time.

Can you give reference to where it says that? I'm not trying to be a jerk. I ask an honest question. :)

Should be fine if you maintain a visible border or vertical line between images and ads.

Sorry I don't have time to find references for this, but I recommend that you look in the forums maintained by game scripts - phpArcadeScript, Game Site Script, etc. That is where I've seen a lot of people getting into trouble. It's not a rumour, I have seen the emails sent from Google (and YPN too). You can take the risk, but I think Google are often manually checking sites (especially before sending out any decent-sized payments) and if they see it, they will most likely react.

Thanks for all the input everyone. And, thanks for the praise about that really cool website but I have to stress again that it’s not my website. That’s the reason I’m asking about the way they have the ads they have setup on there.

The reason I asked is because I saw this type of structure at another website just a few days ago and now I find the same thing at this really large and well maintained website and it made me think that the webmaster must know what they’re doing. It would appear that they have been at this for some time now and are likely to believe that there’s nothing against Google’s TOS by doing this.

When I saw the ads I figured that it was a neat trick but I don’t know enough about Google to know for sure whether or not this is actually allowed.

as pointed out above, put a visable border or vertical line between the pictures and ads and you should be OK
