    I was going to my regular sites when I came accross this adsense placement. I am unsure whether it is illegal or not, please enlighten me.

    Firefox sometimes has display issues, but you aren't supposed to alter the code in anyway - so yes, it would be against the TOS if they had done so but this doesn't look like an obvious attempt to hide "Ads by Google".
