Joke Website

Well, I am going to start up a Joke website. I figure I love humor, I enjoy reading humor. It will be decently easy to program as well. These types of sites are very viral campaign oriented as well. Everyone always wants to share funny stuff!!

Anways, I am not trying to get rich; just to have a little bit of fun I guess.

Do you think their is a possibility for this type of site to make money or atleast sustain itself? I am going to go through with this regardless just because, but if a little bit of extra cash comes along with it then hey no worries. I just want it to be able to sustain itself though which shouldn't be that hard i would think... heh

Thoughts?

 

A simple Google search will show there are a ton of Joke sites out there. There is always room for competition I suppose. Look at your competition and create something they don't have. I don't see another plain database of Jokes going very far. Good luck though.

 

A good domain name, slick layout, jokes that aren't lame, and maybe some funny pictures, or other humor content will help you with turning a profit. Humor isn't most lucrative niche, so you'll want lots of traffic. Have fun with it...

 

Yeah. Of the things I am thinking to do (of course all the other sites have it)

- add jokes (with admin approve)
- add pictures
- quotes section maybe
- rating / comments
- email to a friend
- link to the specifc content (buttons, links blah blah)
- Users personal joke pages that shows the saved jokes (with a link that they can share) ie www.jokesite.com/bob
- recieve joke once a day / week

I do have to admit; their are ALOT of joke sites out their. However, most are least impressive to say at best. Most are just plane databases with jokes setting around, and the designs are usually more then not terrible.

I think with a decent push in the right direction, I could definately get some side use out of this.

 

i own an joke site and yeah i got a huge traffic . i have placed adsense on it few days back , but a click dosnt worth a cent.so investing in joke site is not good if u r trying to pull out few bucks from it.

Sorry to break it to you but joke sites don't work anymore.

 

If your doing it for fun then I say go for it. But don't put to much money into it because the payout of one is just isn't worth it.

 

Well, if you do it for the passion then go ahead but if it is for the money then that is another thing altogether.

There are quite a number of joke scripts and joke database which are out there so if you install one of those standard ones, it might not make you very unique. You probably need to get people coming back by offering something viral and something unique.

All the best if you plan to venture there. It requires a lot of hardwork.

 

Yeah, I plan on doing it from scratch. I think money can be made from this type of thing, it just has to be done right. This is not the type of site that you just throw adsense onto. This should be obvious before the site is even made or launched.

A way needs to be discovered in which to target the users; and believe you me, contextual ads are NOT the way to go.

 

What I am thinking as well, is that besides this being a core joke site, it will be expanded among other things as well. Humorous pictures, maybe a video feed section... who knows... the possibilities are endless when you think about it.
