Joomla - Drupal or Wordpress?

    Hi,

I need to develop a brand new website for a client. The site will be Professional Brochure Website but will need to be professional and corporate in appearance and will have several pages that will also be updated on a monthly/weekly basis. I was going to code this in XHTML/CSS but based on the expenditure of the site this language would be too costly in the long run and no good as a CMS language.

I have researched forums and other sites and would like to get an opinion at which language is better to use for such a project. I am steering more towards Joomla but Drupal is there if someone can suggest the better platform for this project. Wordpress is also on my list.

I will point out that the website will aim to get over 50k visitors per month so a strong platform is crucial for the future of this website as well as search engine friendly so the site can get ranked high on Search Engines based on Online Marketing and SEO.

I am confused between the 2 CMS platforms but I will point out:
    • the site will expand over time from 50 pages to possibly 500 after several years
    • The site has to be SEO friendly
    • Is JOOMLA equal in SEO rankings or is DRUPAL better to get a better rank for a website?
    • Is JOOMLA as safe as DRUPAL in regard to SECURITY and HACKING

The site will contain the following features:

    • It will have about 3 categories which will include articles that will be added per monthly basis.
    • It will also include BLOG page with post and no comments
    • A Directory feature of approx 150 Contact Details for Businesses and their website links

Example of the categories for the menu (split into 2 menus - horizontal/vertical and the footer):

    1. Home
    2. Services - 1 to 3 pages
    3. Products - 1 page
    4. About - several Sub-Categories
    5. Contact Us - Contact Form
    6. Gallery - 2 to 3 Galleries

    7. Recycling Information - Articles
    8. Interesting Facts - Articles
    9. Resources - Articles
    10. Blog - Regular Posts (no comments)
    11. Newsletter - Past and Recent Newsletters
    12. Recycling Locations - Directory of all locations (approx 150)

    13. Sitemap
    14. Privacy Policy
    15. Disclaimer
    16. Copyright

I look forward to your recommendations whether I should use JOOMLA or DRUPAL for this project. Please let me know some strong advantages why you think this platform is better then the other.

The site will be developed by a professional so if you also have at least 3-5yrs of expertise in these languages and can provide a high quality portfolio you might even get the job.

As mentioned above I am open to Joomla, Drupal and Wordpress but am steering towards more JOOMLA or WORDPRESS...

    regards,
    elv8.

I would go for Joomla. It has greater support and is less complicated.

Joomla has the ability for 5000 pages at least and more. As far as SEO, it has done everything I have wanted for a year and a half. It is very SEO friendly, without plugins, if set up correctly.

Your concerns about the size of the site are taken care of when you
realize Joomla.org is made with Joomla. :)

Thanks for that Blue_Star_Ent, you do have a strong point there that Joomla.org is made with Joomla. It's nice to hear that Joomla can easily handle 5000 pages and it is very SEO friendly without plugins if setup correctly. Thanks for your input...

Who knows how these CMS's will expand in the years to come. WordPress is a bad choice now because of date stamping and Archives. Unless you want old archives of brochures.

Joomla is a good choice. I'm not a fan of Drupal because it's more disjointed in my opinon.

However the best thing to do is view similar sites and see what they are using. Look at existing templates from the professional designers in each platform and see what will work best.

Wordpress scales very well if all you want to do is post content. However I still prefer Joomla simply because there's just a lot of plug-ins that I could mess around with without having to look through a couple of forums. I mean I could say the same if I have used Wordpress for years. But if you want a close to full blown CMS, then Joomla/Drupal. They're both secure if and only if you keep up with the updates.

They're all really good, I think it more depends on your client. If your client is somewhat tech-savvy and can understand how to use a CMS, go with Joomla! as it allows for the best customization and CMS. If they're not too great with that stuff, Wordpress is simple to work with and install with barely any problems. Drupal is OK too, but I would just gauge and see how you think your client will react.

I would peronslly choose WordPress because of it ability for customization and ease of use. WP also has much better overall SEO capablities along with faster load times than joomla.

Yes true as Wordpress does load a tad faster then Joomla sites I have seen and better SEO due to a blogging platform and to its plugins.

    I would choose drupal,
    Drupal is well SEO optimized.
Its more flexible (its a better platform).
Its more secure, you rarely hear a drupal site hacked (Jhoomla has a lot of security issues)

Go with Joomla 1.5. Great CMS, has all SEO options, plugins for tags/comments/forums, just name it. You will hear here all different opinions. So set up test subdomains and make 3 sites with 3 main CMS (JML, DP and WP) and test them, then point domain to one which you like the most.

I will prefer wordpress(WP) in this case. I'm telling you why it is. I'm pointing out some

    reason behind it. such as:-

    1. In WP we can develope a website with countless number of pages. So problem of pages is not here.
    2. The loading time of wordpress is much faster than joomla
    3. WP is very much SEO friendly and of similar quality like joomla.
    4. You can use many numbers of plug-in over here which are for SEO use
    5. we can control .Htaccess very easily over here.
    6. It is very safe to use
    7. easily can develope sitemap.
    8. Easier CMS application

I'd prefer joomla more than wordpress just because of its download-able modules, more controls over how contents looks without having to mess with the coding much.

But if it was me, I'll go with the one that I have more experience with.
