I personally would prefer Joomla as I've found it to be very customizable, to the point where you can make it look like an actual site and not just a blog. I'm not sure sure about WordPress, though likely it's just as customizable, it's definitely been a good leader in blog sites.

You can make wordpress look and do anything you want. I prefer wp because it's less complex and can do whatever I want with alittle massaging. It comes down to personal preference though, they both get the job done.

WP Port can have some odd behavior at sometimes, I still think its better then the default Joomla Blog Functionality.I love WordPress for Blogging, but I think Joomla is easier and better as a Content Management System.

Wordpress is very easy to use. Obviously, everything you need is there. It can automatically works if needed. As for Joomla, you need to be knowledgeable of at least the basic. Though, I must admit that you can learn the process easily. Someone noted above that it may appear to look as a website, it's absolutely true. Most companies involved in selling products use Joomla.

Wordpress has many more plug-ins and options and is hundred times easier to use than Joomla. The only time I tried my hands on Joomla, I was shocked by the lack of documentation (things might have changed since then) and in order to build a simple site, I had to spend countless hours just digging for info on how to do this or that.

    love them both

wp is easier to manage but joomla is great too but you need a large learning curve.

For blogs just go to WP

It's simple, just follow this equation: Wordpress > Joomla + any other CMS. Wordpress is highly customizable, easy to install, and it's better for first time users than Joomla is. I use WordPress for all my blogs. Joomla? Pfffft.

I hear Joomla is better from those who know code, but for me its wordpress.
I tried Joomla and had a hard time trying to learn it. Looks like anyone could, but I need to make money not sit and learn a new method.

My issue with wordpress is that at heart it is a blog and is treated as such by search engines. They love it, but it will still be considered a blog.

If you want a site to look more like a site with wordpress you can
    Build in pages only
rip out any meta description for author and date out
    Use full width page templates
Change permalinks from date or category number to something else.

    Good luck
