Just got back from the movies

I just came back from the theater from seeing an independent movie that I was the director of photography and the assistant director.

It was really cool seeing my work up on the big screen with a couple of hundred people.

This weekend was the premiere for a small movie that no one will ever hear about, but it was still very cool to me since it kind of solidified all of that hard work into something tangible.

Just thought I would share what was a pretty cool experience for me.

It was a light drama with some comedy about an Indian family that lives in the United States and is about the parents dealing with their kids changing to fit in with the US society. I’d say take out the soccer elements of Bend it like Beckham and add in the family elements of My Big Fat Greek Wedding and that describes it pretty well.

The parents have strict ideas about how their kids should be and they are all coming home for the holiday called Diwali.

Basically the son is in medical school, but has dropped out because he hates it.

The youngest daughter is in college, but has taken to partying and she was date rapped and has started drinking a lot.

The oldest daughter has left her husband because he is abusive.

They’re all just trying to get through the holiday weekend without their parents finding out.

It was interesting to work on material that is so much different then what I would write or direct myself.

Both Saturday and Sunday there were a couple hundred people watching it. The response they gave was very good. Of course it was geared to an Indian audience.
