Just made my very first logo!

I finally learned how to make logos. Definately nothing complex with this one, just played around with some of the layers until I got what I wanted.

Comments and Critque are welcome. By the way I was going for a web 2.0 look, and we all know the "beta" symbol has to be there to showcase your brand new site to the world

This isn't really web 2.0.. the bevel effects on the layer style is quite outdated. Try going for something more glossy and shiny.

There are a bunch of tutorials around on how to create the web 2.0 effect. I think I posted around 5 in that thread myself.

As for your attempt, it isn't a bad effort for your first try. I reccomend that you read the thread I suggested and then have another go. You can thank me later

 

Alright cool stuff guys, just looked at some more 2.0 logos, your right this logo isn't quite there yet, but I think my second attempt is getting a little more closer.

I'll look over some of those tutorials and hopefully that'll help out some, and I'll post back if I can get anything better than this second attempt.

 

If you are really in to the 2.0 design..knowing the colors is the best browse and search for 2.0 colors..you will know it more..

Did you actually read the tutorials I recommended?

 

Yeah I was going for something similar to this one:

Which doesn't go overboard, but I haven't had enough time to really hone my skills enough with the gloss, gradients or any of that stuff to make a worthwhile candidate, so I just stayed with the design I had, but made it smaller and played around with some different color combos a bit more till I found something I liked.

The only thing I've came up with that I think would be cool is instead of the 3 ovals is to make a logo with 3 "comment bubbles" using those 3 colors, but instead of embossing, I'll use the gloss effect and still a little bit of dropshadow.

However, i think what I have now is much better than what I started with.

 

no offense, but the 'icon' on the left looks very poor and may force some people to leave your website.

Here is something which is more 'web2.0' (keep in mind i did it in 5 minutes)



- Light colors
- "Glossy" finish
- white border with light shadow


And beta doesnt mean that the website is new, Beta just means that u have finished the script and it may still have problems with it.

Alpha - Very early version, usually only a few people use it to find bugs.
Beta - Early version, only a certain amount of people can use it to test for bugs. (ie, requires invites to use the website)




By the way, i think almost EVERY web/logo designer goes through the same first stage... Too much shadow on it, and bevel. (i havnt used bevel for around 5 years)

Ive only used photoshop.

 

thats very nice, yeah i only got to see one of them (the other didnt load) but logos & layouts should have a flow to them, no bold color on top of bold color, etc. also no plain text.

Never use default Photoshop layer styles. Ever.

If you use a default drop shadow, or in your case a default bevel, it looks very unprofessional. Always mess around with the values and change it up, never just apply the style and leave it.
