Large Square or Banner?

    Hello everyone,

Some of you probably remember me and some of you don't from my last post. Well, I've nearly doubled my earnings from you all! It was about 6-8$ a day and now it's 13$ and up per day from the last time I posted here. This forum has really helped me out a lot. :)

Well, I started channeling my ads' clicks/impressions and I realized that the very small ad near the absolute bottom of my site is the second best ad on my site! I was very surprised; the only one that did better was my large square ads that do 2.6% CTR!

Since large square ads are known to get much better CTR, I was wondering if you think I should replace the footer ad with a large square ad to increase my CTR/clicks. Or do you think, from your experiences, that could possibly worsen the CTR/clicks from that ad?

    (very bottom on every page)

    Thanks everyone.

    Give it a try.

I would also try replacing the top banner with a 336x280 rectangle or a less imposing 250x250 - CTR should be far higher.

This is exactly what I would do:

Those banners you have on at the moment really don't perform that well in my experience.

With a large rectangle at the top you may be able to double or tripple your CTR.

Test test test.. that's all you can do.

Thanks, I happen to find that advice very helpful. I tried adding a large square on the front page, how does that look?

The only problem I'm having now, is my square ad isn't getting targeted keywords. It keeps giving me ads related to 'episodes' and 'seasons' of different TV Shows. All my good ads such as 'Naruto Headbands', 'Naruto Products', 'Anime Videos', 'Anime DVD's, etc. all show up in the footer ad.

I honestly don't know why this is, but I think the keyword density is fine. It's like Google is completely targeting different ads.

You mention 'episode' a lot on that recent post on your site. You should cut down on that and try to fit Naru in to it more.

The text near the adverts count a great deal to the contextual targetting.

I think the ad placement looks fine like that.

You're absolutely right. I never noticed before but the words 'Episode' and 'Free' are used excessively. I've cut those words out of every news post on that page and reworded the sentences to include key words, rather than useless ones. It seems as though all I can still manage to get TV Episode ads and now I'm getting 'literature' ads. I suppose the reason that is, is because of the word 'chapter' and 'series' used a lot. This doesn't explain the TV Episodes though.

Yeah reduce the words chapter and series a little.

You also have to remember the adverts are different for everyone - if someone finds you from the search engines while searching for 'Naru blah blah' they will likely get Naru adverts, where as if you load the page up directly you are likely to get less relevant adverts.

Trial it like you have it for a few weeks and see how the CTR fairs.
