Learning to program pfkeys on an Apple OS X Tiger.

    I am new to Apple's iMac and I noticed only a few pfkeys are working; PF1, P11,PF12, etc.

    Do you know where I could learn how to program the non-working PF keys?

    System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts

    Works for ANY key (or key combo), not just function keys.

    I have been to the Keyboard Shortcuts area. It says Apple, carrot, and D will bring up the dictionary, but I can't get it to work. The shortcut is enable (checked.) I visited an Apple Store and they suggested I get rid of the carrot, but on my iMac, Apple and D equals duplicate. Has anyone been able to bring up the dictionary using a shortcut?

    It doesn't bring up the dictionary... it does something cooler. It looks up whatever word you are hovering over (in any app) without opening the dictionary app. Hold Apple+Control+D and then move the mouse over a word in this post.

    That is very impressive. I've read the book "The Top 100 Tricks in OS X Tiger" but that was not in the book. I appreciate all your responses.

    File Maker Pro's Spellcheck gives me "false reds" under some legitimate words or names. Do you know I can add words to the Spellcheck, in effect, telling it that these words are correct?

    Under Edit -> Spelling -> Select Dictionaries... make sure you have a user dictionary selected. Then you can use the "Learn" button when running the spelling.

    For three months I would open multi-page documents on the iMac, and the drawer with the spotlight search feature would only open up when I clicked the "drawer" option in the upper left corner.

    Lately every time I open a multi-page document, the drawer automatically pops open. Since my desktop is crowded, I really don't want it open unless I click it. Do you know of an option to open, or not open, the drawer without the "drawer" icon being clicked? It is as if I changed a preference, but I don't recall doing so. Maybe when I was out sick someone change the preference. Thank you.
