Let my content be reproduced?

    Hello guys,

Sorry if this was asked before or is in the wrong place. This is my situation:

I was contacted by a few webmasters asking for permission to translate or reproduce my original and unique content (wrote the articles myself!) on other websites. They are willing to put credits and links to my site, but I'm not sure if that would be good for me.

The content would be an exact reproduction of those in my website, so the originality of my articles would be gone. Is it worth loosing that originality just because of a few links in non-popular websites? How would that reflect in my seach engine positiona and my google adsense earnings... drops?

    Thanks!

Personally if you depend on the content I would not allow others to use it, they may very well outrank you for the terms you are currently making $$$$ on with your very own articles. The link back does help to a degree, but in my eyes is getting to risky, some though do appear to do just what you're describing with some decent success. Guess it comes down to can you live with possibly losing some rankings at the chance they might stay the same or possibly go up?

The translation is an awesome idea probably because it is likely to help you tap into a market you're not well represented in or have good saturation in. As far as others, I agree with hbrlcantra, with one twist of an option and that would be to allow them to do a snippet or excerpt linking to you for the full article maybe?

Offering your original articles for reprint on other sites IS a good way to bring traffic to your own site though. It's very common to write articles and submit them to article directories specifically for this purpose.

One way you could preserve more pertinent content for your own readers is to create smaller articles that touch on articles that are more in-depth. In the "resource box" at the bottom of the article where you would add a little blurb about yourself and a link to your site, you could also say that "This article is the first in a three-part series about XXXX. To read the entire series, click here" or something to that effect.

This way, the site posting your article gets a full-sized article that would be valuable to their readers, and you get the added traffic by creating a "cliffhanger" and making the reader want to read on at your site.

    Hope this helps,

    Jen

Yes forgot partial snippets, how about however if you'd force them to use no index tags for the serps in the content that they use? This way with any luck you could avoid the duplicate content penalty all together :D

The partial snippets is a great idea actually. I'll allow only that and translations :D

I've never thought about that before. Having my websites translated into other languages. Thats not a bad idea really is it, especially if someone is willing to do it for you for free. Win/win. They get new content, you get a new market.

    I'd say go for it!

And yes, if you are making $$ with one site, imagine that site in 2,3, or more different languages...

If you are going to be getting traffic from other countries there is a simple bit of code you can put on your site that will translate it into several languages, I think it is called Babelfish
