"Link units" vs "Ad unit"

    Hi,

One of the best things I learned here about AdSense is to test, them test, then test more... and so on.

So, i tested lots of placements, and other cool ideas that I saw here. The results were pretty good, for 3 of my channels, but another one sucks bigtime... So I'm thinking of replacing it with an Link Unit. So, a question for the ones that already used Link Units: who is it going, compared to Ad Units? Better CTR ? Also, which is the best format? Because i have only 2 possibilities in that place: the 468*15 and the 728*15 formats. I would preffer to put the 468*15, because it looks nicer...

So, please share your experience with the Link Units.
    Thanks.

I played around with link units but got extremely low clicks from them. Haven't used them since, however i might try them again.

My link units are consistently #1 on most sites.

I don't have a significant experience on this but the specialists say that the link units perform better horizontally than vertically. I have to test this on my sites.

You can improve your CTR a lot , if you can make the links on your site blend with the link units.

Here is an MFA - notice how the horizontal links and link units are blended.

After seeing a site sale that happened recently, I decided to put a link unit on my site. The revenue has nearly tripled, but I also made the size of the main ad unit much larger. However, I only have link units on another site and it seems to receive a pretty big CTR compared to my other site when it was only an ad unit.

I had a real problem with link units when I placed them on one of my sites. It seemed to run out of ads, and would show the "view ads about", while if I used the 'ad unit', I had no problem getting ads. (why not just show an irrelevant ad? Or just a random one?)

When I switched back to the ad units, I got clicks again.

I tried link units on a number of pages but have since removed them in favor of ad units. The problem was that the link units got many more clicks (higher CTR) but the ads paid less, resulting in loss of overall revenue. I'd rather have lower CTR and more money.

come on guys i say we put math into this little equation if you sit there with a single ad unit you only have one chance to win over the viewers click until he refreshes the page or comes back now if you have a link unit your odds are much greater to getting a click then a single ad its like 5/1 of 6/1

Like many others here, I alternate back and forth between the two.

My best luck with the ad links has been either the 728x15 or 468x15, but it really depends on how your page is set up.

I removed link units because once people click on them they realize its all ads and just ALT F4 or use the back key . Very few will browse the ads from my experience, while if u blend in a normal ad unit once they click you already get paid..
