Logo help - i suck

I need a logo for a tutoring service I am creating. I am not sure how much I should pay someone to develop it. Can someone give me some guidance on where to start. I have tried to make logo but I have no talent for it whatever.

This became a bit of a ridiculous thread in a hurry.

A logo is very importance because it is one of the first aspects of a business or website that is noticed. An unprofessional logo means that people may view your business itself as unprofessional.

The sheer fact that people are in a bidding war for $20 over a logo shows me that they don't even value their own services highly.

You can probably find someone to make a decent logo for under $50, but you may need to spend more to get a quality product. What you should look for is someone with some good experience, that can make a simple, professional logo that helps to define what your business is and does. You should be able to get copies of the logo in any format you want, and as long as the logo was created in a vector based format, it will be clear in any size. You don't necessarily need to be able to edit vector images yourself but it is good to have a copy of the vector version in case you need to do anything with the logo in the future.

Get a logo for $10 from someone who bid it out, and you will get a $10 logo. I don't mean any offense to anyone who posted here, but honestly, getting in a bid war for $10 or $20 is not going to create the image of being a professional yourself. Between a $10 and $20 logo, the person with the best portfolio is going to win. Not many people are that concerned about a $10 difference, especially when it comes to their business or website looking professional.
