    1. BBC Could Play a Key Role in Upgrading Britain’s Digital Communication
Recently, the Digital Britain report was released and its contents included Britain’s current status in terms of the digital communication network. The report also laid out some important plans for spreading out the broadband services. A very notable aspect about the report was highlighted in the discussion that was attended by Lord Carter, Britain’s Communications Minister. He clearly suggested that the state-funded BBC could have a major role to play in accomplishing the goals that were laid down in the report. He stated that the aim was to connect everybody in the country through a fast 2Mb broadband connection. He went on to explain his point, saying that nearly 20% of the media uptake was through the Internet and scaling-up the broadband services was essential. However, some people did express their concerns regarding the massive funding that would be needed to provide broadband services on such a large scale. When asked about this apparent financial problem, Lord Carter again emphasized that the solution would probably be in the form of BBC. He went on to outline a three-fold plan that would be put in place to ensure 2Mb connectivity across Britain. The first step is about adhering to European stipulations which means that all broadband providers will have to upgrade their speeds up to 2Mb. The second step would include establishing a technical support system to support these upgrades. The final and most important part of the plan is about ensuring sufficient funding for the service providers.

    2. Carter Hints at BBC’s role in Making Britain truly Digital
Lord Carter, the Communications Minister of Britain, recently submitted the interim Digital Britain report. This report was later put to discussion and Lord Carter himself answered the questions. He stated that the present goal was to ensure that everyone in Britain has access to faster and better broadband services for which the benchmark speed has been put at 2Mb. He said that this upgrade of broadband services was now a necessity to ensure that the country was at par with the world in terms of digital communication services. He also emphasized that a bare minimum of 20% of the media’s services were being consumed through the Internet and this overhaul of broadband services was essential. However, the most notable part of the discussion came about when he was questioned about the funding that would be required for such a massive revamp. Lord Carter said that he was hoping that the BBC would help them out with the finances. He further added that the report included a comprehensive strategy that would be needed to achieve faster connectivity. The plan includes making all service providers boost their broadband speeds to 2Mbs. The second part of the plan includes developing technical skills that will be required for establishing such services. This essentially means that faster internet connectivity will be provided through all possible means, including mobile connections and through the fixed line.

    3. Carter Puts Forth a Strategy for Better Broadband Services in Britain
The interim Digital Britain report, that was recently released, mentions Britain’s status concerning their current digital communication network. It also lays out plans for enhancing its broadband connectivity in the near future. A discussion related to it was held and was attended by Lord Carter, the country’s Communications Minister. He explained that approximately 20% of the media services were being accessed through the Internet and it was only obvious to scale-up the existing broadband network. He also mentioned that the immediate aim was connecting people around the nation through improved and faster broadband services that would offer 2Mbs of speed. During the discussion, some concerns were expressed regarding the large volume of expenditure that such an upgrade would need. Lord Carter then pointed to the state-funded BBC, saying that it had the capacity to help finance this endeavor. He then briefed the people about a plan that would soon be executed to ensure improved broadband connectivity throughout Britain. The plan includes making all the current broadband providers follow stipulations that are being followed elsewhere in Europe, such as upgrading the broadband speed to 2Mb. These plans are meant to translate into high-speed internet connectivity being delivered through multiple modes such as fixed lines, via mobiles and also through satellite communications. This would be supported with a technical overhaul that is essential to support the planned upgrade of digital telecommunication services.
