    Joomla is bloutware. I used it for 6 months and had nothing but problems. I even bought a $100 add-on for joomla called mosets tree - http://www.mosets.com/ that turned out to be next to junk.

    Then there is Mkportal - http://www.mkportal.it/ It also integrates with a variety of forums.

    Then there is Subdreamer CMS - www.subdreamer.com

    Look at the photopost collection - http://www.photopost.com It can integrate with a variety of forums or it can stand by itself. So if you want a forum, pick the forum you want to use and integrate it all together.

    Look around, there are a lot better CMSs then "joomla".

    You are going to get a bajillion suggestions because people have very strong feelings about what is the "best" CMS, and really you need to install different ones and play with them, or else try out the demos to decide which one works for you. My personal favorite is Drupal, very scaleable and intuitive, and you can add features easily as you go, and I find it less bloated and more resource friendly than Joomla. You could also use Wordpress but you would need to do lots of modding.

    People that bad mouth Joomla are often not very experienced with it or are referring to the older versions. The new 1.5._ version of Joomla is not that difficult to use. And unless you are getting tons of traffic you won't experience speed issues. I use Joomla on some of my projects.

    SubDeamer is severely underpowered and has very poor menu capability. In short it doesn't scale well.

    Expression Engine is a good paid script.

    Drupal is a good CMS, but was a bit scattered in the Admin for my tastes.

    Easy CMS was pretty stratight forward but did not have a large community for Mods and Add ons.

    Joomla is great but not simple, I would suggest try yourself by testing some of the most popular CMS scripts which demos and download links are available at www.opensourcecms.com

    I used Drupal 6.x for my travel related website. The primary reason was because of the way I can have sub-categories of sub-categories of sub-categories etc. which is beneficial when you want to organize by regions. I found the learning curve was a little steep at first but now it's a peice of cake.. just be prepared to tinker for a good few weeks before before you start getting serious.     Don't your hosting company offers Joomla as part of Fantastico or Simplescript library? If yes then it's very easy to install it!

    Ok after checking out all the ones you guys suggested and installing or trying most of them I have to say even though Joomla is and looks complex I'm getting the grip pretty fast!

    So for me at least today, the winner is JOOOOMLA :)
