Looking for news management CMS

I'm looking for a script that is capable of managing a news site, similar to the larger commercial news portals.

It must have the ability to

Import (parse and publish) and export RSS feeds
Article management
Author managment
Search engine friendly URLs
Pages must be able to have several content 'blocks' for a newpaper/magazine layout, rather than the blog layout that most use.
Ideally commercial templates should be available

So far I've found PHPCow and NewsPHP that seem to do the job, though I'm far from impressed with the support from PHPCow and NewsPHP don't seem to let anyone purchase from their website at the moment.

Are there any other solutions that I should be considering? Both open source and paid solutions can be considered.

 

Sorry, I'd better add, it has to be PHP based and some kind of integration with vBulletin would be helpful

Ease of use isn't really a defining factor on this project, I've been using various CMS for years now. I'm really looking for the next 'step-up' from Joomla, Mambo, Drupal et-al. Something more targeted towards news sites with extended functionality and more professional looking. As I said, cost isn't really an issue.

Well, normally I would recommend WordPress as I am a huge fan and avid user myself. However, I am not sure if your advanced specifications can be met with WordPress without a decent amount of hacking.

For this reason I would recommend StoryTeller or Joomla.

StoryTeller is commercial, so you will have to shell out some bucks. It runs sites such as TechSpot (http://www.techspot.com). link: http://www.esselbach.com/

Joomla has all the features you want I believe and is free. However, the initial learning curve can be a bit steep.

I already run lotd of sites in Joomla, (Marketing Chat) so the learning curve isn't a problem, it just doesn't do what I'm looking for without some major hacking which slows things down further.

Wordpress as you say is too simplistic for what I'm looking to do.

Vivvo so far seems to be the clear winner, nothing else I've seen comes close.

 

So what's after that ?
Any experience (+ve or -ve) about VIVVO ?

 

I would be interested to hear how things go with Vivvo.

You might also try Drupal, but you might have to do some customization.

I know that VIVVO integrates with vBulletin (I mean, using the same user base)

What about other two (blog and directory) ? How did you manage ? I mean, if someone registers in your vBulletin forum, will he be able to post in your blog with same user id and password ?

And I am considering VIVVO for my project. If you don't mind, can you please give inputs on below.
1) VIVVO customer support ? How responsive are they ?
2) Are there any performance problems with VIVVO for high traffic ? (I see that yours is reasonably high traffic one. Did you face any problem ? Are you using a dedicated server ?)
3) SEO capability of VIVVO. Is it good ?
4) Is it worth the price ? (I feel it's slightly over-priced)

No, I don't use that level of integration. The only part of the site that users have to register for is the forum.

I found it to be pretty good, the normally get back pretty quickly and were helful when I questioned them about the hacks I wanted to impliment.

Not really, one gripe I have is the filesize of the images on the index page. Apart from that it's pretty good.

As good as any other CMS I've seen. You can set your own URLs and meta tags for each individual article.

I thought it was worth it. Obviously it doesn't compare favourbaly to the free solutions that are about, but for what I wanted it did the job and it was much less than building a bespoke solution.

I have pre-moderation on all article comments. It does get some spam, but not any more than you'd expect.

I'm still getting to grips with this, though I'm impressed so far. I'll probably move my forum userbase over to it also when I get a chance.

Sorry to ask but what is CMS used for or what is it about?

It sounds like, when you build a website for someone then they able to change any of the content without messing up the code.
