Low CTR - Could use some help

My site is still pretty new (been up for almost 3 weeks), which might explain this a bit, but right now I've had about 25,000 impressions and my CTR is only 0.15%. Horrible, I know, and as you can imagine it is not brining me very much money. I'm not one of those people expecting big amounts of money, especially with as new as my site is, but how do I go about increasing my CTR? Please take a look at my site and share your thoughts with me. I hear about people making a good amount of money with AdSense and just want to make sure I am on the right path to doing that. Thanks.

Yeah, I'd just have to say that CTR is horrible on forums. *tear tear*.

I think generally you should expect low CTR on forums. I have a few that range from .05% to 2%. But I do have one that is doing over 10% CTR consistently - but I am not sharing that one for now ;).

Would you tell me what even the 2% site is? Just trying to get some ideas.

Also, would you be willing to PM the 10% site to me so I could check it out? I understand that you wouldn't want to post it for everyone to see.

there's no secret to get a huge CTR. low visitor:pageview ratio, blending + proper optimization, and few other options on the page.

do that and you'll get 10% on almost any site/page.

no offense at all, but if that's the case, why did you even bother posting what you did then about achieving high CTR? that doesn't help in the least.

the point in that post is that sites/pages that get high CTRs are not forums, they never are. they have few returning visitors, they have few other options on the page, etc. forums have a huge number of factors that make a high CTR impossible.

the only place you can get a reasonably high CTR on forums is in the forum archives, once you start getting SE traffic there.

Ok. Here is another question that just popped into my mind:

How do you alternate where the ads show up?

For instance, I was just reading your reply and noticed there was an ad after the last post of the thread, but then I refreshed the page and the ad appeared after the first post. Also, the ads switch between link units and ad units. How do you get them to do that?

Check out vbulletin.org - I remember that there was a plug-in to do that very thing that you saw.

instead of adsense have you tried a payment system where members that donate do view ads?

that way you get income via donations, and dont annoy members with ads :)

ps have a look on vbulletin.org for 'vb conditions'
pps incase u didnt know vb has a built in payment system :)

    (its just a suggestion)

its not a mod, its a condition where you show one thing for one usergroup (e.g. show ads to guest) and show another to another usergroup (e.g. no ads to donators)
