I have a feeling, and this is just a guess, but I feel Google may be looking for the ________ and discounting links beneath that for signatures. It can be changed, and a good test would be to make it something like ------

 

That's a pretty wild guess. I didn't bother to check but do all forms use a "_____________" before their signatures? If Google wanted to demote signatures all they would have to do is set up some duplicate content filter and only recognize the first occurrence of any pattern. Or refuse to recognize any pattern that occured more than "x" times.

 

I know phpbb and vbulletin do. UBB doesn't, however.

 

Actually, we have been waiting for these counts to drop ever since you and Foxy dropped sleeping bags from your signatures!

But - then again - the Googlebots have been acting strangely for about a week now. We'll have to wait and see if these new totals hold.

That's true. It's been so long I had forgotten that. Maybe we should put them back now and see if they ever get reported again.

 

We could add them back after we determine if this is going to "stick".

Google is doing some crazy spidering these days, though! My one site has been at around 530 indexed pages for almost a year now. But last week Google has just started reporting more than 14,000 pages !

and... still, today, Google has only 9 Datacenters showing the new Backlink totals.
