    Google just recently inflated its indexed page count for most domains (one of my domains went from 180K to 518K). I'm not 100% sure that this is in direct regard to Caryl's page dropping in rank, but it shows Google is doing something.

    Someone else I know had a page drop in rankings and allinanchor followed as well. So perhaps the increased pages in their index could have something to do with it.

    I have seen this pattern since I have been recording this. I believe they are reporting caches from two different places!
    This second place may be THE important place - the place where "sandbagged" sites are waiting to get into...

    Periodically this page is totally jerked around for the keyword phrase sleeping bags.

    With all this time into the experiment I think it is a mystery to us all as to how or why this happens. The big roller coaster ride of February/March this year was something that some pages experienced and others did not. IMO (so it seems) It seems that this page "suffered" more than others at that time. Meanwhile other pages suffered not at all from the the algo change.

    Maybe we should look at characteristics of the page that subject it to these periodic algo changes.

    While we have described this as Google being perfucked...Matt Cutts refers to various algo changes that come into effect. I'm wondering about those as impacts that subject this page to being whipsawed occaisionally in the SERPs. On the other hand it may be that the site currently and for some time ranked one hasn't changed much. I think I'm going to disect the pages and (ask for help) just to see what the characteristics are ...to see if there are various elements that impact how/why a site is jacked around and why otehrs are not.

    I can't say that other pages were not "jerked" around as well. I had all I could do to documant the changes this page was going through at the time.

    A major point to keep in mind is that when all was said and done, this page dropped back into position!

    One major road block is that Googles reporting is much more obscure than it was when we started this experiment. Since last summer the link reporting has been perplexing at best. Right now it is hard to tell apples FROM oranges - let alone compare them.

    example:
    Google is not reporting the "good" links to this page. How can we "trust" what it is reporting for the competitors?

    It is of my opinion the Google has intentionally "muddied the water". (obscurred important information).

    Notwithstanding all of the updated changes for all the sites, this page has fallen out of the serps top ten a couple of times. While you may not have data going back for the others my impression is that the site that has been 1 for a while never fell out.

    My gut (just my opinion) is that significant new bls with anchor text don't have the power that they did when the experiment started. Love to hear other's experience with this. I'm less impressed w/the correlation between allinanchor and serps. Some of that could be that google is underreporting allinanchor as it does with bls.

    Regardless, we have been unnable to pinpoint why this site has periodically jumped around. Thought I would take a look and/or solicit ideas.
