It took me a full day of on and off reading to get through this thread. It is worth it though.

 

I got to thinking something here. For the "sleeping bags" pages. Other than the original links and forum links, have any new links to that page been created?

Google, in its patent, talks of link age. I haven't read the patent, but I'm wondering if people have made the assumption that "the older the link, the better the link".

Is that actually stated? It seems that very very old links should weigh less than newer links to me; as the page may simply be archaic and no longer relevant.

 

But how many do that? EDU's, for example, have pages with tons of dead links on them (removed pages, etc). If Google is using EDU's are "THE standard" for domains, then they could assume that many sites don't remove old links.

 

I'm sure Google checks for dead links and obviously ignores or discounts then. At the same time I think you can make an arguement for the value of an old link. If the link is still alive and active you can argue that it is a sign of the enduring value of the page the link points to. Pages that pass the test of time may be worth more -- get higher ranking -- that johnny come lately pages?????

 

is the keyword tool acting funky today? I'm getting the site in question...a ranking of 100 or 200 or 300 with bls, pr, etc. but no ranking for the top ten.

Google's been rolling out Jagger 2 amazingly slow so far. I'm not seeing any spectacular movement anywhere - google has been extremely stable (according to the API) for about a week now. Normal and typical google movement.

Google hasn't been acting on blatant spam reports as promised either. I still show affiliate links (not sites, just links) in SERPs I am monitoring.

 

Are you seeing an improvement in SERPS? I agree that the last week has been very slow but I have gained 1 rank a day. I am now aproaching top 10 for my money term. Before this all started I was floating from 6th to 9th. I am almost back where I started before the update . Looks like mcdar is right on the money, again!

 

Shades of Last February/March. I'm seeing 3 data sets on the dc's now.

Don't have the dc's in front of me but I'm seeing

Pre Jagger results on most of the DC's
Jagger2 results on a couple
Jagger3(?) results on a few more.

Think I'll swing back to the Jan/Feb posts and reread them.

Yes, Dave, I am seeing the same mix.

 

I still see jagger results on every data center I do the quick-check for. Position 17-18 on a word that I should be #1 for without any effort at all.

 

I was trying to track back to the point where google was showing 3 different data sets for the experiment page. Wasn't that during the Feb/march changes? If not when was that? does anyone recall?

This is what I was thinking about with the above question http://www.mcdar.net/FebUpdateCBlocks.htm

Google's data, organized by C blocks. It showed clear relationships between certain dc's similar to what is happening now w/3 different data sets.

Upon rereading all this information from that period...we didn't come up with any "answers". But there was a similar relationship as is occurring now.

Hmmmm. May want to go back to that data and see which dc's "predicted" or got closest to the results once the update ended in late march.
