I wonder where that number comes from? It is too high is it not?

I hope Google does a backlink and PR update soon. It would help clarify a few things.

I know that seems high!! I think pages/posts are counted more than once...

I've cut out a portion of the results... (see attached)

Well I guess that's possible. Each post does have it's own individual URL.

Very interesting. If that is the case then I suspect we will see the numer go to aproximately 2,200 in another day or two. You and Foxy and I all have between 350 and 400 posts each on this forum. If you add those together and multiply by 2 you get the 2,200 number.

I just checked again and Caryl you only have 208 posts at the moment. So I'll have to lower my forecast to 18,000 to 1,900 hundred.

The other week I posed the question that not all forum links may be counted because of the estimated 50 link limit G has on a page.

I just had another count (as Ive just begun my vbulletin board so have seen all the links) and on DP's pages there are 53 links BEFORE any post is listed. (you know, links, search, all the tools, adwords........) Maybe there is a dampening effect here ?

Google's Webmaster Guidelines suggest that you limit links to 100 or less per page. So I personally can't believe that they would implement a policy of only reading 50 links while their guidelines suggest that anything up to 100 is permissible.

    leeds1,

Thank you very much for the offer.

I think that you may be on to something there when you mentioned in another post about the 50 link thing.

I would have guessed that the forum links would have had some effect at least on our Allinanchor: placement, but it seems to have had little effect. At least up to now.

I'm not sure what else we should do, at this point.

    Bob,

You would think that as logical. However, I can conceive of no other reason why Google did not count Aleks PR7 link as a backlink to the page.

That one still has me scratching my head!

(then again - with the 54 other links on his page the PR passed was diluted down to a PR1 per page - I think - maybe that was it)

    What makes you think this?

If you look at my Page Rank Calculation chart it suggests that a PR7 page with 50 links on it will pass PR5 with a single link.

While nobody knows for sure how PR is calculated most knowledgable observers have agreed that my chart is reasonably accurate.

It certainly seems from our experience that the impact of links, if they are going to have any impact at all, is almost immediate. However I don't think we can really make any final decision until after the next PR/backlink update.

    Bob,

I knew I would get that wrong! Thanks for clearing that up.

Yes, we will see if anything shows up in the update.
