I didn't find any change when I removed my sig. Click on "UserCP" top left and chose the 'Edit Signature' option.

I just tried three or four searches with your keyword tool and the results displays where a mess. Have you checked it out this morning?

And I still have no idea exactly what Foxy did?

My sig file is more than 3 lines, which is now the limit. The control panel will not let me make ANY changes unless my changes comply with this new rule.

I will change it this morning so I can add links to the new experiment.

Has anyone else added links to the poker pages? Are you and Foxy going to add sig links to the poker pages?

Well, I just tried to edit my sig file and the urls for the datacenter tool, keyword tool and then both poker links exceed the 250 character limit. Therefore, it will not accept the change.

If I cannot alter it to contain those links, I guess I will just be leaving it as it is.

I think you posted on time a menu page or home page as it were for all your tools. I didn't pay any attention at the time, but am I right? Is there a menu page?

If the answer is yes, why not put this in your sig in lieu of the first two lines you have there now and then that would free up some space.

I'm still thinking about where I could reasonable put up duplicate links to the two test pages. I don't know about Foxy, but nobody else seems to have jumped on board. Rational and Schlottke both said they would help but we haven't heard from them yet????

 

I'm just waiting for the call to place the links on this forum to your page plus any others that you might like.

I think your current sig also exceeds the 250 character limit and will find a problem trying to change it without eliminating some urls.

I could be wrong.

But, I say you guys should add the links, if you can, so we can get this experiment off the ground.

yep it does or will do I was intending to eliminate the ski one again as it is summer at the moment - I think.

Just going out and will set the link up on my return - about an hour.

Something I just remembered about my position dropping- not sure if they are related or not, but I added links on all of my pop up image pages:

allinurl:www.jrwrestling.com/catalog/popup_image.php

around 200 PR1 or PR2 pages.. Perhaps this is causing the quick drop?

I have had EVERY page that I have pointed additional links to, fall in the serps! This started around mid May.

I must say I am now a little "gun shy". But, I have resolved that if I want some keywords to place well for christmas, I had better "optimize" now so in 3 months they may be "out of the woods".

BTW - You had mentioned previously that you would volunteer some links to our new experimental pages. Is that offer still open?

Can you explain exactly what you are trying to do with these pop up images? As I see it these are internal links at best.

I don't think anybody has ever suggested a sandbox or negative affect from internal links.

Also I don't understand the refereence to PR1 or PR2 pages. Which pages are you talking about? The popup pages don't have any PR value do they? So in that case you must be talking about the target pages. What relevance has that got to anything?

Some speculative analysis of today's sleeping bags results.

1. We have never been able to explain the initial drop from a position in the teens -- I think we got to 16 or 17 -- to a position in the high twenties. Nothing had changed at that point in time except of course forum sig links were being added daily.

2. We have speculated that the drop on 06/12/2004 from 30 to 46 was probably precipitated by Alek's removal of his single PR7 link, ten days earlier. We do not believe it was associated with the removal of sig links because Google was still reporting the total amount of sig links on the 12th even though they had been removed on the 11th.

3. Google started to report lower numbers of sig links on the 14th, but even today the number reported is far higher than the actual number that exist.

I have always believed that Google is slower taking links down, and dropping a page's relevance as a consequence, than they are recognizing them and evaluating a page for them.

If the drop mentioned in point 2. above was due to the loss of the PR7 link then this is pretty fast and immediate. However we had a drop of about the same magitutude (point 1.) previously, for which we have no explanation, so we may be in error attributing the drop of point 2. to the PR7 link.

But if Google is on an approximately 10 day schedule for dropped links then we should expect to see the impact of the dropped sig links around the 21st of the month.

You bring up some very valid points!

I believe Google made some significant changes at the time of our first "jump" as I seem to remember speculating when "someone would name it". But now I will have to go back and dig.

Yes, I would think your reasoning sound in that, approximately 10 days after the loss of 1000+ sig links, we should expect some change in serps. IF, the previous drop was due soley to the loss of the PR7 link.

ALSO, your post made me realize that it will be most difficult, due to the length of this thread, to go back and find our comments when significant changes have occurred.

I think I will go through the thread today and collect the pertinant posts and copy those to html pages that will be linked to from the external, complete report that accompanies the daily update.

This may prove to be an ambitious task to accomplish, but I think it is absolutely neccessary to have this information readily available for any current and future evaluations.
