I had them in for months but changed them on Monday - the new sig doesn't show up either - don't know if that's an issue or not ?

 

It is also important to note that "All Forum Signature Links are Not Created Equal".

Between this update and last, the experimental page had as many as 4060 and as few as 945 signature links from this forum.

However, only 149 made their way into the new backlink update. (64 new since last update)

 

I also just discovered that Alek's page is now a PR6. When (durring the last 22 days) this change occurred is anybody's guess.

So, the effects on the experimental page, if that link were still in place, is hard to say.

But, it is important to realize that these PR changes happen to pages linking to all of our sites probably all the time. This could be a reason for fluctuations in the serps that go unexplained.

Linking, at best, is like a house of cards, one change can have an effect a great many other sites!

Although links are starting to show up for these pages (664 links to be precise), it is interesting to note that...

1). No links were reported in the update

2). Neither have made it into the top 1000 results for any of the keyword phrases.

Does this strike anyone else as odd

Very odd - remember my PM and the "new page" on Saturday? - well it continues to rise!!! - Also I had another site that I was getting particularly fed up with, with "modular homes", and so I thought I would just "go for it" with "flatpack homes" [it is not competitive at all - therefore no risk] on php driven pages that I hacked together last week - no links pointing at them, no anchors - guesss....sss what? No1+2???

So I am going to take out of my signature the Modular Homes and see what happens.

Also interesting to note:

Foxy's Page is #12 allinanchor for Online Poker Games and #24 allinanchor for Poker Games!

Bob's Page is #223 allinanchor for Online Poker Games and #405 allinanchor for Poker Games! ( I looked this up manually as the tool only looks in top 100)

These two pages are suppose to have the EXACT same links to them!

I did notice that Foxy's title is Poker Games and Bob's title is Online Poker Games

BUT... What could the reason be for such a huge difference in position?

Any thoughts?

Note: Regarding spreadsheet - Keywords are different tabs along the bottom of spreadsheet!

FYI FWIW: I noticed this with another external link I removed a few weeks ago also, so yea, this is puzzling - implies some old back link data (my main page is spidered basically daily), so they DO have the latest content from the main page, but why do they still show back links that were removed weeks ago?!?

And someone else commented that www.komar.org is now PR6 ... yea, it dropped from PR7 on the update a few days ago - so sad - I may have to send the Hulk out to do some Google SMASHING! ;-)

I've had a suspicion for a while that Google applies some 'additional' dampening when the domain name contains the anchor text words but thought that it would only be relevant in the actual SERPs not the allinanchor placement.

Of course it is only a thought but it does seem to be the obvious difference between the two pages.

If you look at the tool at the page at 12 it is the index page, which was themed [I changed it away from themed last night] - that is it had online poker in the title and text - and had the one link to the page we are testing.

If you test the link: to the page tested it comes back with 0
If you test @ to the page tested it comes back with 6 and notice that the links are from inside the posts in the forum

If you test the link: to the index page it comes back with 24 but notice that the links are from the signature from this forum
If you test @ to the index page it comes back with 82

[Remember also that this site is only just now, this update, PR3 and can hardly be more with only one non forum link]

The page returned on the Experiment 2 tool is the poker-games.html page. The legend at the bottom of the tool says "--- "Mouse Over" URL to view actual page returned in results ---".

The tool displays only the main url of the site due to the length of urls.

Well blow me - mind you my "control" disappeared out of site the other day, and is still not back, and I had my signature link at the time - I removed it last night.

We shall wait and see

 

Note that today's reported links from this forum is 401 and my total posts equal 403

How did the reported links from this forum ever reach 4060?

Because each post is propagated across several pages - single page view, next in thread page, archive pages, etc. Not quite sure how many 'pages' are generated by vBulletin but Google generally picks up a couple for each post.
