    About the cacheing and 'forgetting'...

i just noticed how G deleted a cache of a page and went back to the one from Aug 10th. Why? :S No idea. It has visited this page during the last few days because I added some stuff to it, including some unique links to other new pages and these new ones have been cached and indexed. I ahve seen a proper recent cache of this page yesterday I think, it was showing the added stuff and the new link.

    Very very strange.

    And BTW:

There is more weird stuff going on here. The page is PR4, has about 200 outgoing links bleeding all PR away (don't care) to different IP pages. So PR4 but with only 1 reported link coming in (PR4) and in reality another 1 coming in (currently PR0'ed for unknown reasons).

Explain that with Bob's tables! Not that I doubt those PR calculations, i just doubt Google accuracy/consistancy/precision. It's a mess!

Yeah the silly bastards where I have/had it wouldn't move the hosting block address and it ran out of renewal time at the weekend - I am now trying to get them to unlock it and I will move it to my own hosting. But they are not hurrying!!! Expect it back this week sometime - I have another couple new domains due today or tomorrow and will let you know.

In the meantime the other sites are still showing on KWT with solid 4s etc

Tops30 I keep banging away at this in that I believe they have changed the IBL OBL balance some time back [May] and if you look at uncompetetive terms [weber bbqs] you see this forum there at 1+2 with only OBLs - there are other instances like yours that seem to add credence to this thought.

It does not mean that you slam up a page with all outgoing links and you will get a benefit but there is definitely something going on there :)

I have actually considered exclusing this page from robot visits because the links must be worth nothing and it does actually outperform the real product pages on the odd keyphrase which annoys me. There is literally no text there, just links.

OBL's can't count for PR of this page so the only way I can imagine is with LocalRank benefits.

It pisses me off at times all this crap. Especially when a page you optimize remains no where to be seen and a page you don't care about does show up!

I wish they wiped their databases, reviewed the algo and started again from scratch. How can those 4 billion pages NOT turn in to a unmanageale heap of shite? Surely, even a supercomputer must loose track of what is what when and where exactly.
I'm probably having a bad day... (after not being able to log on to DP for 48hrs)

I have also just noticed that the page ranks...

    Yahoo!: Position #9

    AllTheWeb: Position #10

    MSN: Position #8

    HotBot: Position #9

I am not certain about the others BUT the experiment page was gone from Yahoo as well until it showed updated cache in Google!

    That is too wierd.

Note: with all of this you would think that one of these SEs would send a referral today. Not a one ( for sleeping bags - that is)

    Lol ..... F..... if I know!

Leeds1 go and look at the "weber bbqs" thing by searching and troll down and see all the entries that are attributed back to forum signatures etc - when you get to about 25 you will see one of our sites with a page that I banged up with 1 IBL and only a few OBLs and an iframe to boot. The original page with IBLs like this experiment was is nowhere to be seen.

Let us know what you think :)

I would NOT be so quick to draw conclusions.

We just did 3 things almost simultaneouly!

    1. re-cache of page
    2. new inbound links from different IPs
    3. new outbound links on experiment page.

It would be NOT be prudent to conclude that any one of these things alone was THE reason for the "ressurection".

    Now with that said...
leeds1 try some outbounds on your page and let us know if you get some positive results ;)

Yep - I'm not quite sure that it is as simple as that - I have a sneaking feeling that it needs to be dynamically generated - more specifically php as a blog or forum.

I have had some php "groupings" within html sites doing very well

I see the site is now coming in at #16 for sleeping bag.

Sleeping bag only appears in the alt image tag as far as I can see.

but foxy you were correct :

built from a few php include statements - effectively, the pages approximately divided into header, footer, nav, content

my no o/b links page should be on G tomorrow

Ive added some government related links now so let's wait for Friday for that

That's just Google doing it's stemming. If you use the plural Google will also rank you for the singular and vice versa. In fact some times you will rank higher for the form of the word you don't use.

What this shows is that you can rank well without out ranking anywhere for allinanchor: If you see sites in the top ten with McDar's tool that have no allinanchor: ranking it ususally means the are optimized for a different form of the word.
