#16 ish for nearly two weeks now.

Would it be an idea to throw up an OBL to the #1 and see its effects? Perhaps now the page appears to be stable in the sub-top, localrank might have a greater effect than link popularity.

 

I think that is a good idea, but what do you mean exactly "to the #1"? Thinking about it a little more I assume you mean the #1 site in the SERP. In this case why put up only one OBL why not link to the top ten?

 

Yes I did mean the current #1 for the target phrase.

I think it's easier and clearer to add links one by one instead of 10 right away since this way it is easier to monitor the impact (probably?). You can always add later.

Even better would be to get a link back as well but that'd be pretty hard to accomplish I guess.

I know it worked for me adding an outgoing link to a top position page for the same phrase. Might well work for this page too.

 

This is something that was raised by PMs here a little time back, and excuse me if I didn't include you in that TOPS30, but is, in my opinion right on target.

I was stuck with one in-its-own-right competitive keyword, added an OBL to an authority and moved a few within days. Same with other quick tests. A more thorough setup on a brand new page has fetched #1 steady position instantaneously with a ton of authority OBLs.

I'd like to see its effects on the sleeping bags page to confirm or overrule these thoughts.

Remember I had 3 OBLs up then took them down - ranking effect zero

2 days ago I added FIVE obls - ranking effect - zero - page cached today

Links were to 3 govent related sites, 1 commercial related and 1 industry commercially related - the first 3 were for small businesses rather than what I am doing - this may be why no change in serps ?

 

Now DPforum is a authority site......on Weber BBQs hehehe ....so I am going to link back to that thread from the highest achieving page

 

I really don't understand the theory here, but

I added a link from the experiment page to the #1 site this AM.

Yep but also the idea of the OBLs stems from the fact that the www is an exchange of links [and I do not mean reciprocal I mean you just link and the natural progression is that people will link to you independently] - they shouldn't just go one way. So if the balance was being distorted by IBLs the natural thing to do by Google would be to upgrade the status of the OBL and it is logical that a lesser authority site would link to a higher authority.

Hi Foxy,

Yes, many of the pages that have the new links to the experiment page have been discovered by Google. However, these have become too numerous to check and report on every day. I already spend 40 minutes every morning checking the results and updating the reports with the orginal data.

If anyone would like to volunteer to help with checking and reporting I would welcome the help. PM me.

I was delighted to see that 9 of the new links were reported on the most recent Backlink Update. I do believe that even more are actually being counted as a link to the experiment page by Google.
