This is an interesting proposition!

However, I am still on my 1st cup of coffee so give me a chance to think this over. - timing is my main concern.

I agree that others should provide input first. The neat thing about this sequence of tests is that a number of opinions have been invaluable in keeping everything on track and minimising mistakes.

 

Being the trooper who checks the records of what each domain is showing by eg

site:www.dailywhopper.com +sleeping bags

I might find 100+ domains a little taxing - however I am willing to give it a whirl so long as I can call on some help if need be.

I don't see any conflict with this and the fact that the links have doubled off the sites already listed as donations and the potential movement that should have occurred from that doubling.

I have access to an automated tool that can run a query in g to check whether the 100+ pages are indexed with the link text present.

Compar hasn't replied so I guess it should be OK - not speaking for him you understand.

You should know that I put back the two signature links recently as it appeared that Google had stopped pissing around with them - and they are working ie making differences.

The weber page one has jumped back into the rankings [albeit after fixing a small non appearance problem - it wasn't there (only a week or so)! - pointed out to me by rvarcher, thankyou] but more importantly the weber page [different] that was on another site has dropped out. They have swopped.

Now this is the same as another KW phrase on another site that I reported here

My conclusion is that this is not about the Java but about the linking - these sites cross link directly, without a three way tie, and it seems to show that where there is the same KW Google is selecting one site and not the other - all these sites are on different IPs, and that in this instance the sig link has added weight.

 

OK I have added the link to the system and they will be come online over the next 24 hours.

I will start reporting when the first one is indexed and cached by big G.

To whom shall I send the report?

Foxy - it sounds like you are a convert to "sig links work". Do you still have any reservations or are you thoroughly convinced?

Sig links - I was one of those who "saw" a detrimental effect - and so I took them off - but it was Compar who pointed out just recently that Google seemed to be pissing about with them and it appeared to be that they were working again - and so I put the two below back on with the result that shows they are - I should mention also that it was this non-competitive sig link that showed me the opposite a little while back.

 

What info is going to be reported to me????

Are you saying that you are adding links to this experiment from 100 different urls but the 100 urls are all at one IP address?

Please clarify and PM me with a couple of the urls so I can chaeck them out.

Note I have added info on today's update regard Google's Current Backlink Update!

The experiment page DROPPED from 3530 Backlinks reported in November's Update to 155 Backlinks reported in this current Update!!!

No Ad Network links appear in current Update.

Very few Sig links reported!
- digitalpoint links dropped from 170 to 14
- SEOChat links dropped from 12 to 9

(more detail in Daily Update - previous post)

Due to the large number of links reported in previous Google Update I could not go into the detail of the many links reported then for anything other than the sig links. I counted those as they were the focus of our current endeavor.

I did note that the vast majority reported previously were mostly from the Ad Network.

Sorry Guys but I haven't been keeping up with this thread for a couple of days. If you ever think my opinion is really important you should PM me.

I guess there is nothing wrong with this experiment at this time. The only thing I wonder about is when, or if, we will ever be able to rationalize the impact of the removal of all the signature links that Foxy and I did. For several days I seemed to be the only one who was sure that the drop in SERP placement had not been precipitated by thier removal.

The best I have been able to determine, is that BOTH the sig links AND the Ad Network links were removed around the same time.

NEITHER the sig links nor the Network links are showing up in this latest Google Backlink Update!

The position Drop from #4 to #10 SEEMS to be the appropriate drop for the loss of the Network Links.

SO - Did the loss of the sig links have no effect at all OR was the effect of their loss masked by the background increase in our Contributor's links????

What is your take on this????

I don't fucking know! Too many variables.

When this latest 100 domain/one IP test is over Foxy and I could put them all back again and see what difference it makes.

BTW it just occurred to me that this is one of the few forums without a filter that catches the "F" word. Has anybody done a search on "forum +fuck" to see where we rank?

I just tried it. And this forum doesn't show up anywhere. There are a ton of web sites with the "F" word in the title. As a matter of fact Google returns over 5,000,000 pages for the search.

Oh, and did I mention Merry Christmas.

I think I must have been infected with the Anthonycea virus when I read this posting. Oh well, it had to happen sooner or later.

Just to point this out...

Today the experiment page was in position #22 on 5 datacenters and was in position #4 for allinanchor on 4 datacenters.

I have noticed a discussion titled Shakin' Em Up... in the Google section of this forum where folks are talking about big changes to their site's positions.

Yes, mcdar, the last few days have played havoc with many people's long-held rankings. Actually, if the experiment page does lose a lot of rankings, it might be the perfect way for people to possibly figure out the new algo, since it is such a tightly-controlled page.

 

Indeed they have. I have a site that has ranked in the top ten for 4 or 5 search terms for months now. With this last update every SERP placement was dropped somewhere between 20 and 40 places. And I haven't done anything to the site recently except to continue to build backlinks.

So what the hell did Google just do? My reported backlinks didn't drop and my PR is still 6. If anyone can figure this one out they are really a genius.
