There just doesn't seem to be anyway to understand what Google is doing. As your daily report shows I have the link on 115 pages of my InfoPool. At least 105 are PR4 to PR6. And Google only shows 16 pages as backlinks? Go figure? Perfucked again I say.

You have to go back all the way to the June 22 Update to see the last time Google got anywhere close to reporting the actual links you have been contributing!

There was a BIG change in Google at that time as it was the same time that Google "forgot" to update the cache of the experiment page for two months after that.

The experiment page went from position #46 to #144 to #3** to NOWHERE in the results in a matter of 30 some odd days. The page reamined NOWHERE for more than a month... yada - yada- yada.

Looking back, I'd have to say that June 22 Update was the last to give 'Link:www.domain.com' results that actually meant something!!!!

The shit being returned since then has been just that

Hi Shannon,

As far as I am concerned, I don't know why Google is bothering to dedicate the processing resources to such a worthless function anymore!

Certainly, we are well aware that we have well over 2000 links to the experiment page! We have 1700 from the newer supporters that have really been UNDER REPORTED by Google.

If Google does NOT want to display LINKS anymore they should just eliminate the search. But, hey the other search engines offer that lookup so I guess Google decided to leave it in place and just fill it in with GARBAGE.

One thing I have noted lately, (and maybe this has been common knowledge my old brain has just forgotten) Googles Link: search is VERY case sensitive!!!

Look up link:www.mcdar.com/camping1/sleeping-bags.htm

then look up link:www.mcdar.com/Camping1/sleeping-bags.htm

or link:www.mcdar.com/camping1/Sleeping-bags.htm

is this old news???

I think this thread is toooo long.....takes awhile to load and often I can't get to the last page......today the last post I can access is by Smyrl which I read two days ago.
At the risk of more off topic posts compounding the problem, is anyone else seeing this.

Perhaps it's time to go to.....Part two...A nice tool that Shawn didn't write -- hard to believe.

I never have that problem. The page loads quickly and I can go to "last page" with almost no noticeable delay?????

 

URL's are case sensitive as part of the standard. Might not work that way on a windows host, but if you're using *nix and you enter a mixed case URL, it will give you an error.

I've gotten around this with a mod_rewrite rule when I need to, and domain names of course are not case sensitive.

Maybe you should 302 Sleeping-bags.htm to sleeping-bags.htm.

Yesterday I saw some wierd things happening in this forum (other threads). I saw some posts that were here one minute then gone the next - never to return. One of the posts was by Smyrl in another thread.

I have not had one time where the upper/lower case situation was a "problem".

BUT it can be a BIG problem if folks are not aware of this!

Someone linked to a page on my site and used upper case in the link to me. I discovered this while looking through my Backlinks reported by Google.

When I then followed up with a "site:" search, the same page was listed twice!!!!
Once was the real url and the second was with the upper case that was used in the link to that page.

The problem was it seemed to make Google think there was a duplicate where there was none!!!

I hate when folks won't just copy and paste the link as you request it.

I found the same. On one occasion the thread got deleted for Spam I assume but in another one there was no reason. My little tick next to it is still there but my post isn't. I meant to PM Shawn but forgot all about it until you mentioned it here again. Is Foxy a moderator nowadays too?

 

I thought I was going to end up in the funny farm , yesterday Smyrl's post #1589 was the last one I could read and when I made my previous post it was above mine as Compar probably saw.....now there are 4 posts between us

There were only 113 pages in this thread yesterday, now we are back to 160.
Another thing I noticed...on every page in a thread the posts started from 1 no matter how long the thread.

Maybe it's a duplicate filter kicking in since all those datacenter updates look so similar...heh

 

Actually you might be right Rickbender...today we are back to 114 pages and all the datacenter updates appear to be missing.... that would account for the decrease in page numbers.
Note all the pages in the thread start with post #1 again.

During my "addicted to keyword tracker" days July-Oct 2004 I used to check my position several times a day and noticed that there was a very consistent change depending on the time of day. Around 10pm EST the rankings for a keyword used to be around 8-10, and after 3am EST they used to drop down to the second or third page. This happened for months and is still happening to this day.

I was hoping to assist with some effort between Christmas and New years at identifying changes in serps and allinanchor while working from the Complete Report (Its massive - 23 pages or more to print out). I can understand how it took Caryl 3 hours several days ago to identify some related impacts and movement in SERPs. Afraid I can't be of assistance though, my work has become too involved - and frankly this experiment is huge. Best of luck, Happy New Year, and glad to see the site moving up in the Serps, whether anyone can figure it out or not!
