I'm astonished by how much allinanchor has bounced around over the last few days. I've never seen that before. Is anyone else experiencing those kinds of changes with this latest google dance? Even as the site went up and down in the past I don't recall allinanchor varying much at all.

I am basing it on the "average" of where it is - obviously it is a lot lower than where it was before whichever figure you read.

 

I am curious what comments you guys have on the results I have been keeping in this table...

Datacenter Results February 2005

Its too many numbers for me to digest...plus serps and allinanchor rankings are so varied.
But one thing is clear. The experiment page was doing fine until you discovered the new data centers! Maybe this whole thing is google pointing a warning finger at the McDar tools.

So far we have had comments about on-page impact, sematics/flow of keywords/links/focus and loss of links as possible reasons for this flux. Any other suggestions? Anyone else with similar results?

Has anyone ever had their allinanchor jump around like this site? That is totally foreign to me.

BTW I asked about allinanchor flux since the G update over at SEO chat just to generate more experiences and opinions.

This latest Google Update is NOT OVER!!!!!

We cannot just glance at the Daily Report and assume anything.

I have done my best at trying to record frequently the changes still going on and putting links everywhere to keep people updated!

There is a link on the DAILY UPDATE every day so anyone can look at the daily record since it's beginning! [ Complete Report ] It would be easy enough to click on the link and scan down through to see that this bouncing around on allinanchor is unpresidented in the history of this page.

Just because there is a lot of data in the table is no reason to dismiss it entirely. If folks can't digest it all then at least recognize the fact that obviously things are too unstable now to analyse or criticize ANYTHING.

It is so damned frustrating to spend the amount of time I have spent to document this experiment and then have folks not fully consider the facts here before they toss in wild speculations and theories.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate contributions, But PLEASE consider ALL of the recent data first please.

I just meant with so much data and so many changes I personally couldn't make sense of any of it at this time. The site is in incredible flux. Not only are the serps bouncing around but allinanchor is bouncing around and the dc's are showing all kinds of ranks. In fact I couldn't see or smell any trends. If I recall correctly two days ago there were some allinanchor rankings simultaneously in the 30's and 400's. Today I noticed a couple of dc's with #2 allinanchor rankings along with very high numbers.

As you mentioned earlier, I'm similarly amazed by the change in allinanchor. That hasn't happened over the term of the experiment. In the above thread only Jane referenced the additional changes in allinanchor for her site. I think that is very telling (although I don't have any idea what it means) if only because it hasn't happened all year long.

Thank you for taking the time to look at the data and offer an accurate statement regarding it.

I started a thread on February 8th asking people if they detected changes in allinanchor and a few replied they did but mostly it got off topic and back to folks talking about their placement in the serps flip-flopping.

Most people do not pay real close attention to allinanchor and not many would check it daily. So, it was almost impossible to get people to focus on this enough to get more details.

I, myself, did not start detailed tracking of it until Feb.9th and would have been totally oblivious to the extreme changes had I only recorded it once a day like I normally would have.

In fact, my normal once daily record of the results would not have revealed what was really going on this last 11 days!

Many times, you can see in that table, the regular position decrease while at the same time, same datacenter, the allinanchor would wildly change in the opposite direction. There seemed to be little connection or relevance between the two.

I have often seen results that made me wonder if Google stored data separate from any datacenter that is used to actually calculate serps and that results for link:, site:, allinanchor: and such were just done on the fly from cached pages in existing datacenters.

This might also explain phenomenon such as the sandbox. If, for whatever reason, your site/or page was not represented in this separate place, you would not be considered for placement even though all of your individual results would/should qualify you for a high ranking. It's like, you are there but Google just forgot about you.
But... I digress...

ANYWAY -

Sometime yesterday (feb 14) between 6:30PM and 11M Google finally UPDATED the remaining 6 Datacenters with the new Backlink data. So it only took them 11 days to complete the Backlink Update.

I am still recording changes and differences across the Datacenters although they are not right now as radical as have previosuly been recorded. We'll see how long now before things start to settle down and even out.

The fat lady has NOT started singing yet!

At this time I'm astonished by the changes in allinanchor since 2/2/05. That is something that hasn't occurred over the length of this experiment. Allinanchor has been significantly stabile for 10 months.

4/08/04 - 4/20/04 Start of experiment allinanchor ranged from n/a to the 30's to about 15

4/20 - 8/02/04 allinanchor at 7 or lower

8/3 - 8/20/04 allinanchor at 8-10

8/24 - 1/26/05 allinanchor at 2

1/27-2/2/05 allinanchor at 3

2/3 and beyond. Allinanchor has a case of Mexican jumping beans!!

For the time being the page seems to be stabilizing at around positions 98-100 and reported allinanchor seems to be floating to around 30.

Both rankings are DRAMATICALLY different than what had occurred to date.

I've personnally been a big believer and practitioner of targeted anchor text to boost allinanchor and then boost rankings. Unlike the experiment my business site has varied allinanchor text for a couple of different keyword phrases.

I guess we will shortly need to try and interpret all of this.

One piece of significant and historic piece of data we have in the Complete Report is that, once Google gets their shit together, the site can drop back into overnight!

Case in point - look at the results in the Complete Report for the dates

This experiment page had been totally missing from the search results for the previous 20 days!

But as you have pointed out, notice even then allinanchor was hardly effected during that period of time.

I just re-checked and now I see 11 Datacenters are reporting pre-update Backlinks.

Google seems to have reversed or rolled back the Backlink Update to the following Datacenters:

On Datacenter 216.239.37.105

The 8:AM result was position #98 and allinanchor #245.
The 12M result is position #102 and allinanchor #29.

That just makes no sense at all!!!

At 5M I "caught" 4 Datacenters reporting the page at position #7

This is the first time it has been reported that low for the whole month of February.

But as we know - these results are changing very rapidly. No telling if we will actually be headed there, but maybe there is hope!

There is a "fresh date" of Feb 14 in the search results and the cached page has today's date (Feb 15th) !!!

It appears that over the last 3 days the rankings are getting closer to one another across dcs. Currently the rankings seem to be closer together than does allinanchor. It also appears that a couple of dcs are stuck on very high allinanchor rankings even as overall allinanchor appears to be moving into the 20's or 30's.

maybe some dcs are NEW Google, some DCs are Old Google, and some could be Perfucked Google.

Hi Dave,

They're ALL PERFUCKED!

Currently, there are 6 Datacenters that have remained, as a group, ALL the same in both regular serp and allinanchor! They also happen to be the Datacenters that are currently displaying the OLD BACKLINK data.

The were Updated for a few short hours (between 12 to 18 hours) with the new Backlink Data then rolled back again. The short Update was rolled back on 2/15.

These Datacenters ALL currently show the page at position #111 and allinanchor at #227. Whatever changes that have occurred (few) have occurred simultaniously on all six. They have all reported the exact same data throughout the entire period.

The Datacenters are:

66.102.7.104
66.102.7.105
66.102.7.147

You can note the "rolled back" Datacenters on the table by the \ after the reported position.

The Update and algo changes are being introduced by C-Blocks (at least at this point)!!!

I went through and organized the last two days of data by Google IP address C-Blocks. It still does not explain the "problem" with allinanchor being out of wack but at least the position "swings" are grouped in an organized fashion.
