Looks like we'll soon be back where we started ~2 months ago.

Assuming it sticks the big question is whether anyone can make any sense of what happened in the meantime.

It may be worth noting that during this time my 114 donated links had 2 changes of IP address........ and then again it may not!

My BIG QUESTION is...

Is there anyone who has followed this thread, that still can't accept the fact that GOOGLE CAN BE BROKEN at times?

Patient,

While we might expect some movement in the serps from your site/link changes, that in no way can explain Googles month and a half long "thrashing about" of this page.

Regardless of whether or not this "sticks", is there anyone left who has not said to themselves, "this is just insane"?

Hopefully the site stays there for a while. Especially hopeful for you, Caryl, with camping season (and hopefully buying season) around the bend.

I'm still curious why this page with this search phrase has been riding such a roller coaster whereas others haven't. But we will probably not know since google reveals nothing.

I guess we will wait to see if the page stays on this ranking and allinanachor.

Geez. We're back to October 2004!

 

I wouldn't rule out anything so easily. As far I can see, in broad terms at least, there are three possible explanations for this ride:

1. Google is broken in a way that affects this page particularly badly
2. None of the page ingredients (on-page or off) have had an effect but G has introduced an algo/filter change that it has been continually refining in a way that this page is particularly susceptible to.
3. That Google introduced and retained an algo/filter change early Feb that this page is on the edge of tripping - in which case the minor change of moving 114 same-text links to a single IP address could tip the balance - and moving them on to 20 IP addresses could untip.

Unless someone can devise a cunning test we will never know, but if I was a SE I believe I would discount same-text same IP links cos they're too easy.

This page is has NOT been alone in it's crazy ride the last month and a half!

A look at Rank Pulse will show that a great many sites experienced significant changes or the last couple of days.

Others that have shared similar experiences had pages that had nothing in common with this page.

What kind of filter can you imagine that would produce these kinds of results for allins and specifically allintitle?



Things really can happen at random and at certain times trying to apply logic defies logic itself. If we can not collect enough evidence to draw a real conclusion from, we would be better served to leave it unexplained rather than toss about speculation.

It would be interesting to solicit more opinions in more forums from the evidence that has been posted here.

Prior to 2/2/05 there was never a period where this page for this keyword phrase jumped like it has over the past 7 weeks.

Have others experienced this? Did they ever experience anything like that before? My site didn't jump like this. Some have mentioned they have seen crazy results and some haven't.

Even if something was "broken" in google it was probably broken in parts rather than in total. Some sites just haven't suffered these effects.

Maybe its random...maybe not. We are sort of up in the air. It would be interesting to solicit wider exposure in that the recording of information is so thorough.

That is one of the most unique and powerful parts of this experiment. Whether we can determine reasons from any of the actions over time...there is (to my knowledge) no experiment like this in forums.

Maybe others can point to effects that we have yet to see.

I agree that anything that can't be tested and proven is only speculation.

This group has demonstrated its patience and thoroughness and has collected good data. It would be a pity if we couldn't exploit this by assembling a few potential theories and developing experiments to test them.

Having said that I am off to the Canaries for a much needed holiday. I may find time to check this thread whilst soaking up the sun and sangria - if not I will catch up in two weeks.

Today, for the first time since February 2nd, ALL Datacenters are displaying the same Backlink results!

They are all displaying the March 3rd Backlink Update!!!

Well....

It looked like things were going to be stable BUT sometime yesterday between 7:AM and 6M Google went crazy again.

17 Datacenters were showing OLD BACKLINK RESULTS!!!

10 were showing January Backlinks
7 were showing February Backlinks

This morning as of 8:AM the Datacenters showing the February results have once again started showing the current March 3rd Updated Backlinks.

But the 10 Datacenters showing January Backlinks remain that way.
