    Meetup has been areound for quite awhile but they lost a lot of users when they started charging to create groups. That was in late 2004 I believe. Not sure what their fee structure is now. I try to keep my eye on web trends and social networking sites are huge, but meetup never really took off even tho it has it's own nichey thing going on. Personally I like Tribe.net better but it's definitely got a different vibe.
