anthonycea the fact that some people will not believe the truth, almost makes me want to give up, but the fact that all those infected computers running windows can and do disrupt the internet keeps me going.

How do you convince people of the facts if they refuse to believe them?

    May with quote like this?

You are on the right side of this issue Mushroom, you will see Linux surpass Windows within 3 years.

I still have many 3.1 and Windows 95 machines sitting around that are not hooked up to the internet and they work fine.

My next OS will not be M$, my next box will be a MAC laptop. I would like to have a linux box down the road and I am sure I will.

Everyone knows that you need 3rd party help to run a M$ box.

    http://searchwars.squarespace.com/free-software-downloads/

A lot of help is within the above link, anti-virus, anti-spyware/malware programs are linked in addition to reviews of AV software.

Well let me give you some free and obviously much needed advice, mushroom. Try changing your song from that one-note "M$ is evil - let's all bash M$" theme to something along the lines of Utilities for Basic Computer Security and maybe, just maybe, you'd gain a little more credibility. No one really pays any attention to a one-trick pony after the first 15 minutes.

    To reiterate:

    1. much of the damage from the most destructive of the recent viruses could have been prevented if users had simply applied already available patches issued by Microsoft

    2. Linux and MAC are NOT immune from viruses, trojans, phishing scams, and the like -- stop pretending they are

See... that's what I'm talking about. I'm not familiar with that specific site but try getting the word out to people about better surfing and email habits and you'll find that we're all a lot better off.

This is great Minstrel, but the average computer user is lost and does not know how to run security programs.

Yes they do need third party software to protect their PC's, plus Microsoft is not doing anyone any favors by forcing upgrades to XP to get their latest browser.

IE has a new flaw discovered everyday and as MIA mentioned and the press has reported, M$ does not take security serious until pressure is brought upon them.

Leaving 50% of the Windows user base out there without a decent browser is a danger to the internet itself.

Why do you think many are turning to Firefox, even the US government has told us all to quit using IE (windows OS).

Yes but Steve Ballmer has a great idea to keep folks on M$, "the $100.00 PC".

They will be like a disposable lighter, when they get filled with spyware/malware/worms, just throw it away and get a new one.

Can't wait to buy mine when Wal-Mart and the local 7-11 start selling them.

Well IMHO the best thing to use in conjunction with AV and Firewalls is one of these Then a PC can be kept running trouble free for 4 years with only the OS left to contend with ;)

Do you have to have a brain to listen to the radio or watch TV?

When you watch TV do you have to worry about someone coming through the television and stealing everything in your house?

I think you probabally start off with one, but over time it gets worn away.

How else would television companies get away with filling their TV listings with crap.
