Migrating 3 domains into 1 domain - do we keep the existing 3 Google Analytics properties?

    We have 3 websites:
    1. example.com
    2. example.co.uk
    3. example.com.au
Currently we have a separate GA property for each domain. We've had these domains for over 15 years so we have a lot of historical GA data.
    1. Property A for example.com
    2. Property B for example.co.uk
    3. Property C for example.com.au
We're going to migrate the above 3 websites into one global domain, which is the .com domain. It will then look like this:
    1. example.com/en-us/
    2. example.com/en-gb/
    3. example.com/en-au/
Question: Do you recommend we still use the existing GA properties?

That means when someone goes to a page under example.com/en-us/ we fire the script for Property A.

And when someone goes to a page under example.com/en-gb/ we fire the script for Property B.

This sounds ideal to me because we continue to build on top of our historical data and can easily compare pageviews and other metrics before and after the website migration.

Or is there another best practice recommendation?

I think you should keep the Google Analytics properties separate if you want to preserve historical data and compare the metrics.

Keeping the current properties for your new setup can indeed be beneficial, as it allows you to build on your historical data while still tracking new performance metrics separately by region. However, it might also be worth exploring the option of setting up a new GA property for the unified domain, as this could provide a clearer view of the entire site's performance over time. Ultimately, the best approach depends on how you prioritize historical insights versus fresh holistic data from your global website.
