Miss-spelt domains

Has anybody made any money from miss-spelled domain names.

    Ie. www.eby.co.uk or www.yaho.co.uk

Not sure how you would use it. Adsence, affiliate programs, products but surely someone must have tried it.

Im not thinking of doing anything in particular, just thought about it for a while. Also would it be illegal.

I think it would be legal. I wouldn't invest in it unless it's something you can just "set and forget". Err really I wouldn't invest at all.

Some savvy people do make money from mis-spellings but the names themselves (i.e. the real ones) need to be fairly high traffic for it to be worth much more than the registration fee for the domain.

DNJournal.com keeps tabs on the prices of domains. The domain, Cammunity.com (a typo of "community") went for $2,351 recently. Another recent sale of a typo domain was Porker.com (a typo for "Poker") which went for $155,000!

You can't run Adsense on a typo unless you have developed content on the site. Most people park the domains and get a cut of any Adsense earnings that get made by the company with which the domain is parked. Like Sedo.com, for example.

It isn't illegal to have typo domains, however, Google recently went after some typo-squatter domains which were obvious takes on the Google trademark, so who knows what the future holds?
