Monetizing my blog directory

I have been running a blog directory for almost a year now and currently offer free submissions and monetize the site using Adsense.

It has been a constant battle to keep out spam submissions of which there can be thousands each day.

To this end I am thinking of chargeing for submissions. i think my site is established enough to warrant paid submissions and this will also curbs the spammers.

It would be great to hear from other directory owners to see if this is the way to go or if there is a better way to earn from my site.

    Thanks.

Well I'm not a directory owner but I was thinking if your blog directory is sending out good traffic to these blogs then having a link on your site does have some value. Then you can determine how much of a fee you want to charge for submission. Or maybe if you have high PageRank and targeted categories.

You really have to determine whether your site provides value for other webmasters and be able to back it up with real data. Otherwise you'll have a hard time convincing people that they should pay for a link - but this also depends on how much you want to charge.

As for the spam, you can always employ captcha to prevent bots from submitting spam links.
