how is it possible to make money from ebooks? is that an ebay thing?

and what is to stop someone either reselling your ebook, or publishing it on a website, so no-one buys it anymore?

    thanks in adv.....

I don't think there's much money in ebooks.

Unless you have a complete niche, (I sell one for $20, which has made $400 over last 10 days), then you're not going to make much money. Stay away from the ordinary, think about your interests/things you do, that's the best way of doing it. I came across an idea for my ebook while looking at a forum related to my interest, I'm sure this information is given for free all over the net, but if people are willing to pay for it, then who cares :)

You can't effectively stop people from stealing your ebook and reselling. You can get it copyrighted (which I think is a lengthy and expensive? process), but that doesn't offer you much reliance that noone will copy you (The way that the Music and Film industry lose billions of $/year). You also don't need to rely on eBay for sales, mine is on a website, and I use Adwords.

Selling ebooks on the net is difficult. You raised a good point about people being able to get it and make multiple copies of it. A good idea is to build a membership section of your site which allows visitors to download videos, ebooks, and other stuff for a low month fee. That way you get people paying you on a monthly basis. But your site has to be content rich, though.

I suggest targetting people who are naive/ignorant about something and then taking advantage of them.

    For Example:

    Joel Comm Fraud or Real?

The problem is you need something people want, but you need to be believable. For example, everybody wants money, but if you claim to make them $40 million in one day, no one believes it. If you claim you can show them how to make more, you need something that proves you know what you are talking about.

I have an eBook site, AvoidingCostlyAutoRepair.com, which we sold copies at various places. The guy that actually wrote the book has been in the car repair business for over 30 years, but how do we actually prove that? We finally got the idea to offer a special (it was on an auction ad, but will soon be on the website) that would include two "free gifts". The first was access to a members only section which would recieve free updates, plus there was a forum so you could talk to the guy that wrote the book to ask specific questions about their car/mechanic. It also included a set of recordings from the radio where the authur did 25 minute car repair shows. They aired once a week on a local station, but it gave him credibility.

When the auctions were listed, they usually got a few views, but not many bids. It was one of those things that could be a scam, but might be good. When we offered the bonuses, we included a little survey when they sign up for the members' area. It asked them why they decided to buy the book. Almost all the replies had something to do with the fact their car costs too much money or their mechanic is screwing them. If this guy was on the radio, and would take personal questions about their car, they felt he would give a more honest answer to what they should do.

The bottom line is, you can have an eBook that's great, but no one will buy it. It's all about the marketing and how you get it out there. There have been too many crappy eBooks about selling and marketing to justify actually spending on one unless you have a great angle, even if it's just a money back guarantee.
