wow, these ar most CERTAINLY NOT the most popular 500 fonts for any professional work - yes, a great collection of amateur and novelty fonts, but these are neither professional files, nor in professional formats, and their correct usage is VERY slim.

Yes, designers do use sites such as dafont.com and the like, but a skilled designer would create the type themselves, in perfect accordance to what the job required - not rely on a library of thousands upon thousands of poorly made novelty fonts just in case. Life's too short for wasting time on junk fonts.

While I agree that some of the fonts are not up to par, do you really expect any professional designer to create a new font for every job? There are such timeless fonts out their and while many jobs should use unique fonts, I find a compatible font (paid or free) 95% of the time.

I wonder how much money I'd make if I started charging font creation for every project!

I said create the type, not design an entirely new font for each project - there's a huge difference.

For example, skilled artist can take *any* font, and in illustrator or photoshop, add a 'grunge' feel to it by using brushes. This means they are no restricted to only the 'grunge fonts' they have to collect and download, but they can use literally ANY typeface and turn it into a grunge look.

Now, it would be hard for a designer to make the WHOLE thing up, but for the most part starting with a professional and solid base and further extending upon that to create a piece is FAR more likely to be a quality product than using an inferiour product.

Once you lower the standards in one area of your design, you have limited the entire of design to that level. Please, for the sake of design - use only the highest quality materials when you're not creating it yourself. Unless you *are* designing your own typeface, please don't settle for something amateur and obviously childish, please use the most professional fonts you can afford.

I like these, but I would most likely go for dafont stuff over this. Innovati makes a good point; however I have to argue that the time spent creating type is most likely better spent on images unless it's a logo. I can find any font I would ever need on there. But I get where you're coming from.

    oh help me! slander! ugh

I don't want to be known as the guy who recommends DaFont, I recommended taking a pro font and modifying it using skill. I'm involved in type design and making typefaces, and I'm certainly not interested in getting 500 free useless pieces of trash, or going on dafont and grabbing whatever freebie stuff is out there.

If you don't have the skills to make your own typeface, you **MUST** use a pro typeface and trust that the people who made the pro typeface did their jobs - you really do get what you pay for in life.
